Four cheers for Thegoldenband! These threads, and perhaps in particular the total stats, should be included into any schoolbook on gaming history as I fear the majority of the diversity we represent, is forgotten or ignored in mainstream story telling.

Btw, I doubt there many other gaming communities where Game.com belongs to the top 20 most played systems in a single year, well ahead of Dreamcast, Saturn, Master System, Nintendo 64 and many more.

Thanks very much, y'all! It's my pleasure to do this.

Atarian7, most of it is indeed automated (or at least quickly prepared with a few find-and-replace routines), though the 1000-minute club members have to be done by hand (that list in post #1073 took a while). The all-time games for each system take some manual labor too, but fortunately I found a clever way to automate the formatting, at least.

Each week's stats take me about an hour, sometimes less, but I typically multitask by doing it while watching TV or talking on the phone, so it goes by quickly. Most of it is inputting the times; preparing the reports themselves are relatively quick. These end-of-year stats took a few hours, but that's a lot less than it took to input 2008-2010 when we were getting caught up!

This is my 5th year on atariage and I made my debut doing this in 2015. 2016 was the first full year I participated for the game log. 2017 shall be a great year for gaming and always a pleasure meeting people in this thread.

Woah! That was quite an impressive list of stats goldenband, and thank you very much for all the time and work it took you to make it! At first I was really surprised to see the PlayStation and Game Boy place as well as they did in the system rankings for the year, but after running the numbers for my own household's gaming time this year I think I have a good idea as to why they did so well.

 

Since I didn't have any spreadsheet programs to work with (just a basic word processing application and a calculator) it took me a good 5 hours or so to go through all my tracker posts for the year and gather the statistics on my household's gaming time, but I thought it could be fun to do since I know the misses and I both played a fair bit of tracker ineligible games this past year and I wanted to get an accurate idea of what our year in gaming looked like with those ineligible games included. So, without further ado, here's the final stats for my household from 2016.

 

 

 

In 2016 my household played 423 games on 19 systems, with a total video game play time of 73,222 minutes (50 days 20 hours 22 minutes, averaging out to 3 hours and 20 minutes a day).

Hmm... 1300 something more minutes for Silent Hunter. That's gonna be close, as I'm almost at the end of the campaign. I'll try not to be influenced by this knowledge keep playing the game as it's supposed to be played. Then we'll see.

Wow - I didn't expect to see so much of the random crap I played on there... good job me for playing random crap I guess? That was a good year in gaming (on my end at least), and based off of some big 'ol boxes I have coming, at least the start of 2017 is going to be interesting from my end.

 

Thanks a ton for keeping stats thegoldenband - it's always fun to do this thread.

 

*edit - well damn, the game.com playthroughs really did something. Did I ever finish the game.com library? I'll have to go back and check, maybe that will become a new thing I do with playing through the game.com library every year.

Generally, I can see that I restrained myself a bit more in 2016, especially regarding games I don't actually own, so I don't see that many "guilty trips" among the Top 100 for this year where I actually should have bought them judging from the gaming time (if they were still available).
