Wenn wir nur noch deutsch reden, wirken wir exotisch und cool, oder? Vor allem würde ich nicht immer meine Englischschwäche so zeigen müssen :)

Translation: I really like the Intellivision and so on

There are a few guys here in the forum who are understanding german quite well.

I think there needs to be a voter test before someone is allowed to vote in this.

How about this: a potential voter must submit a >1000 word fan-fiction about their favorite grocery-store meat, written in 8-point Comic Sans single-spaced font and submit it to the PETA forums.

I'll start:

"I had spent too much of my lonely days in in the cereal aisle. The faces of Captain Crunch and Tony the Tiger constantly stared at me, judging me. Of course, aisle 3 was skipped. That place is fine for others but it was not my scene. It was full of brats of the wurst kind, nothing but a sausagefest there. Finally at my destination, my eyes glossed over the beefy ones. While appetizing, memories of the incident 6 months ago brought forth second thoughts. Moving on, I finally saw her: all natural and no fillers. She acted cool towards me but I could tell she knew. Deep down, she knew. I am a chicken breast man..."

But I learned something too, Walter/ Valter means Ruler of the Army!

i love that "let me google that for you". My friends make fun of me and call me "google" because i google everything. But when they have something broken/not working they call me and it takes me a matter of seconds to google the problem for them. Sometimes they say they did google it and i keep telling them to shorten what they are typing and only use key words, but people still dont get the clue. Edited by pimpmaul69

It's definitely a skill that requires some logic and experience.

There is a limit on the number of votes per poll? That's a strange thing...

no limits... just ending the 31st Jan and I was curious to see if we can reach 90 vote before that date (we did and it is the new record of votes)

On a side note, why does a parent name their child Valter, and not Walter? Just curious...

ok, that is really off topic, but I feel I have to answer because in fact... there is an explanation, and I found it myself because I was curious about the V in place of W....

My family is 100% italian and they did like Walter name for whatever reason.

When registering my birth, the legal register refused to use W because of a non written politic against german name that was in place after the fall of Fascim (italian "version" of nazism) and my father was forced to make it sound italian by using a V...

That is a very interesting story, thanks for sharing, Valter. The strange thing is that, with the "V," over here in the USA it sounds more German.

maybe because the initial "V" in German is pronounced like an "F" (f.i. Volskwagen). Actually the name Valter would sound "Falter" in German

But, in German, W is pronounced like a V in English. VW "Folks Vagen".

So, in reality 'Valter' is the proper German pronunciation of Walter. (I'm not expert, so correct me if I'm wrong native German speakers)

Wow... thanks for the explanation! :)

On another side note, legal registers are stupid people.

I always have Valter pronounced with a soft V, almost like Walter. :)
