Scooter83
Hey all I picked these 2 beauties up tonight. I'm a suckered the stage and odd and these qualified. The pilot I'm guessing is a pre production tested version dated 3/80 (probably a finished copy for reviewing ). The 2nd cart called stand alone I have no clue about it. It's not on an assy cart I'm thinking maybe some hack job someone programmed on their own. Maybe a home brew from the 80s. Maybe an in house name for a later released title I don't know. I won't be able to test these out till I'm home in February as they are being mailed to the house while I'm on the road. I sent a message to tempest and cpuwiz about these. Just strange and different and wanted to share incase anyone had information on em. Story I got was these got rescued from a recycle center in california. Guy I bought em from lives 30 minutes from sunnyvale. A kid brought in a 800 with some games for the 2600 and a8 with the 800 system and when asked he bought it from a lady who's husband worked for atari. The system serial number on the label and stamp on the console reads 070 0133. Thanks again for reading and I hope to learn something about these carts. krslam
I'd guess the "Stand Alone" cart is some version of the SALT (Stand ALone Test) cart used by Atari service centers. There were several versions of this. As for Pilot, your guess is as good as mine. If possible, try dumping them for comparison with the released ROMs.
Tempest
Stand Alone is almost certainly a SALT cartridge. As for PILOT, detecting differences is going to be tough due to the nature of the cart. I'm certainly not going to do it.
Scooter83
Well here are the diskettes that go.with pilot. Some are dated 5 13 80 and some 5 14 80 and some about a pilot light pen demo and other demo disks. Figured I'd share em incase anyone had interest in seeing that.

Scooter83
I might be able to . I'll have to look up how to do that on google. Unless there's an instructional on here. That would be done around Feb 11th at the earliest. But I'd be more than happy to do that and see what's on these disks and share them with the community

What do the screens show in a machine on both?
Scooter83
I won't know till I get hoe on the 10th. The pcb board the light color looks identical to the one used in my 810 diagnostic cart.
Scooter83
Pilot boots up like this: Heres that Stand Alone cart. Here is an interesting prototype for Video Easel. CXL4005. Never seen anything like this before. And Boot. Even though its Atari 2600 Heres a Prototype for Missle Command. ( This was crammed in a 16K memory box with a memory module. with a loose board of Superman that is a production copy ).
Tempest
Video easel looks like the released version. Pilot has an earlier copyright (79 instead of 80) and lacks the Ready prompt. I'm not familiar enough with SALT to know if that version has been dumped. That Missile Command could be different too.
Scooter83
Tempest, did you need the missile command for study? Also didnt know Atari did a mock of the game title of LIFE for Video Easel. Strange they would do all that work.

Tempest
Id be interested in that MC rom just to see if it's different. Life was the WIP name for Video Easel, but I don't know why they made a mockup label for it. I don't recall seeing a picture of it in any advertisements. Maybe the name change was made late in the design because the game never actually identifies itself as Video Easel, the first option is Life.
