+slx
My 5 year old daughter took an interest in things Atari but except for the very nice CocoNotes which I knew from an ANTIC interview I didn't find anything that was slow and simple enough for her to enjoy. Any recommendations would be welcome (and need not be limited to 8-bit, VCS/Stella would be fine, too).

Marius
I remember my daughter enjoyed http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-colorasaurus_1129.htmla lot. She also liked Philsans game Cookie Monster (see his post) She also enjoyed http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-big-bird-s-special-delivery_618.html When she got used a bit more to joystick one of the first games she played were: * Nibbler * Pac-Man Arcade on bear level * MegaMania It was pretty hard for her to hold a joystick. I first let her play with a joypad (7800 style joypad). Later -when she wanted to use a real joystick- I used a few of these to fix the joystick to the desk. That works excellent. She is 7 now, and she is really good at certain games.
kiwilove
Jane's Program comes to mind - written for such a child. Not a game, but just something to do with the joystick. EMI has some jigsaws - one being Anne Hathaway's Cottage. There would be stories on disk suitable for that age - but I can't remember the titles for them. +slx
Thanks for the great recommendations! Never heard of any of these except Rainbow Walker (which looks nice but is probably too fast).

+MrFish
Another good program for young ones is: Rainy Day Games by Baudville. I'm not sure why it got such a low rating on AtariMania, but I found it to be quite good.

+MrFish
Ah, that's where you'd be wrong. Atarimania is run by an elite team of 8 year olds, but all with college degrees.

popsicle
Matchboxes is a great easy game for kids (it's memory - use joystick to find the matches). Each plays a tune and little animated graphic. My kids love to play this with me.
