Mac Stella bugs

Brad Oliver (who is the author of the Mac version of MAME) asked in another thread for a list of bugs in the current version of Stella.

The main two things that I'd like to see fixed are:

1) support for the keypad/touchpad/keyboard/things (for Synthcart, Star Raiders, etc.)

2) having the cursor disabled during game play, so paddle games don't interfere with the OS (eg. picking items out of the Dock in OS X, and so forth)

I think most of the game-specific bugs were fixed in the main 1.3 source.

From a "feature request" standpoint (if time and interest permits)...

A screenshot function (added to the X11 and SDL builds in 1.2) would be really nice. Getting screen grabs in the current version is a pain.

More video modes. Triple size, triple with scanlines, and (if possible) hardware scaling to full screen.

The return of auto-switching to 256 colors in OS 9. The speed gain when using 256 colors is incredible, and is really the only way to run Stella on slower Macs. (I bought a color-switching utility for my Mac, so I'm already good to go. But it'd still be nice to have Stella do the switching again - at least as an option.)

The only other thing I could hope for for Stella would be some simple sort of front-end that supported screenshots. But that's a "wish list" sort-of thing.

There's one one other thing I thought of... is there a way to have it switch palettes so PAL games look correct? For example, I could only find a PAL ROM of Polaris, and the colors are way off in Stella, from what my NTSC cartridge is. I don't know if this is present in Stella or not, although I think something like this is present in one of the other PC 2600 emulators.

  • 2 weeks later...

The one I have only Quits if I press Command+Q. Not when I choose Quit from the File menu or from the Dock menu. This is a bug. It makes no sense. Only app I've seen that does it. It must be squashed... if it hasn't already.
