Sega Genesis mail away stuff.

I bought a pair of those speakers (minus the Genesis branding) at a flea market in the early 90s.

That's cool I know I have seen others out and about but I had always wondered if they made some with branding and some without or if Sega just got a deal and slapped their brand on them as such.

I had a pair without the branding that came packaged in a plain white box. These were mailed from the US to Canada back then. Sega must of used different suppliers for the various regions in North America & Canada. I guess it was luck of the draw if you got the branded version or not.

yeah, i totally mailed off for:

- the speakers: not great quality, but the price is right! kinda miss em now

- there was a promo early in the genesis cycle for a free game with some UPC's, i think i chose something dumb like Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing, ugh

- i also did a UPC one for master system & got Rambo III!

i saw some people did a Sega Visions one for that Colors of Modern Rock Sega-CD disc (had Mr Big's "To be with you" and others on it, haha) but i'm pretty sure my model 1 Sega-CD just brought it

"Only SEGA GENESIS BRAND games appearing on coupon are valid for Free Speaker redemption."

I wonder what this means? Is there a back side to this coupon?

This does t seem like the best deal in the world. Crap PC speakers for free after buying $100+ worth of games in two months. And those prices in the promo Prof Gull posted, ouch. Are those Canadian, Australian, or some other dollars? $100 for Strider or ToeJam is a lot.

I was almost tempted to buy the promo card for mail in to see the other side as well off eBay. I might still try to see if i can find an image of it out there someplace cause I am curious as well.

There was a flyer page and commercial to push this promo as well. Admittedly yeah they are pretty much standard PC speakers around the $20 range.

I wish I could pick out the games I butchered to get these but i have lots of missing UPC's on the games I still have. I want to say it was 2 games though and I think the ones I used were Revenge of Shinobi and Herzog Zwei. Just given the dates. But when you are young and you are buying new games for 49.99-69.99 it definitely does not value out later sadly. Same goes for the Powerbase Converter. I did that one as well and the one to get more games. Within the first year of owning my Genesis I bet I went through $1000 in hard earned paper route money.

Just goes to show sometimes free is not free.

People talk about "hard earned money," but there's nothing quite as hard earned as adolescents up early in the morning to deliver papers and spending it on 1980s-priced video games. That's truly a labor of love, and a way of earning money no longer available to kids nowadays! Kids with paper routes have got to be as rare as milkmen.
