MikeSilva
Found this picture and thought the group might enjoy it. Sometime in 1982/83 we were all invited to stick around after work to smash cassettes in exchange for pizza and beer. Here are the results.

Justin Payne
Yea, why? Were they disco cassettes? That would be understandable. Synapse programs were pretty good. Nothing worth smashing from what I can remember.
MikeSilva
I don't know. Maybe they weren't selling well as more people bought disk drives, and it was an inventory adjustment thing. Just like all those Atari cartridges buried in landfills.

+save2600
Sad, but cool at the same time. Typical bean counting / tax incentive BS I'm sure. Probably couldn't write that stuff off unless they were literally destroyed. Cool pic all the same, so thanks for sharing!
Justin Payne
Reminds me of the LA riots...except with more white ladies with New Balance shoes and protective goggles.
Tillek
Yeah, boo in the extreme. You shouldn't be promoting this... you should be cowering in the corner and crying in shame in the beer they gave you as payment for your souls for taking part in this.
Bryan
What people don't know is at the previous party they burned all the punchcard editions of Synapse games.

Lets see, riot vs company sanctioned event. I don't see why anyone is upset over destroying inventory. Companies destroy inventory to shrink it out of the system for tax purposes. Get over it. Bryan
This is like Atari dumping carts in New Mexico, but on a smaller scale. You can dump unsold inventory for a tax write off, but you have to destroy it or it will mysteriously end up back on the market and then you have to compete against it.
