Zap!
STacy 2 to be exact. Last week, I was the winning bidder on this listing, for $312. It's high-risk (since the seller didn't have the power supply to test, as he claims), but it's a chance I was willing to take. It didn't come with anything but the computer itself, so I ordered a power supply from Best Electronics. Should be here in a few days. Anyway, last night when I got home from work, the package arrived! I carefully opened it up, and it looks very good, with just a couple of small scuff marks. Even the warranty sticker (void if removed) is intact over the screw, so it has never been taken apart. The only thing that worries me a bit is that I hear something small shaking inside, presumably a screw. I hate that I have to open it up and remove that sticker that Atari loves to use, but it's probably long overdue for a cleaning anyway. I have no idea what that "world" sticker is on the front top. I never seen any with one before, so it was probably put on by a past owner. But why? To cover a huge scuff/crack? For kicks? I will remove it and find out. One thing that surprised me was the sheer weight of the computer. This thing weighs a ton! A lot larger than it looked in the pics. And I thought my 1998 Toshiba Satellite was huge! I will report back to you when the power supply arrives. What are your guesses? Works? Hard drive? Any tips? I know it's late, but I'm super-excited and just can't wait for my next package so I can test it! Well, here's a few pics! 7 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/ Share on other sites
AtariGeezer
The screw under the bottom label is for the Floppy & HDD caddy and doesn't need to be removed just to open up the case... And congrats on winning that , hope it works Edited April 14, 2016 by AtariGeezer 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3490930 Share on other sites
Clint Thompson
Awesome! It does look to be in pretty decent condition, especially for its age and weight - hopefully it works out for you! These have a 20MB hard drive inside, right? Maybe it's loaded with some goodies... 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3490963 Share on other sites

galax
Nice! Careful not to let that heavy lid drop on your fingers, I learned that the hard way. My Stacy and (dead) PSU disagree about the voltage and whether or not the centre of the connector is positive or negative. Could you test it with a multimeter and confirm what it is outputting when your PSU arrives? If it's a screw inside you should probably get it out before powering it up; would be nasty if it shorts something out. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3491069 Share on other sites
Android8675
As the guy who bid you past $300, I just want to say... something, but I won't because I'm nice and I don't want to jinx anything. I should of bid it up to $400, but instead I just took delivery of my first (working) 1040STe 4meg with sf314/sm124 for just over $350. Gonna test my MT32 with cubase tonight and LSL tonight. -A. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3491142 Share on other sites

I'm going to take it apart first, as someone pointed out that whatever is rattling could short circuit it. Who knows, it may even be a penny lol! So that works sticker on the front is unique to mine, correct? I'm scared to see what's behind it haha. Thanks, and yeah never seen that sticker; some people even nowadays like to put stickers all over their laptops. Probably nice and scratch free under that sticker once you get the gunk off with IPA or similar. Bama
For Sale:Fully functional STacy 2 upgraded to 4mb memory and 170 mb HDD, US TOS 1.4. The upgrades were done prior to my ownership. Additionally, the current floppy is supposed to be a 1.44 epson mechanism. It has a light face. I was planning on changing this to a black faced Sony model 920, the original STacy floppy cable has a twist and requires no driv . e select change. I will include this for the new owner. The screen is dim but usable. I have attached some photos here and have more on dropbox for your review.https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fzleo745ez59 ... You can easily get $450+ for what you describe. 2) The last one on eBay (that I bought for $312) was NOT listed as "non-working" as you put it, but "untested" instead, which is a huge difference. 3) The Marketplace section on AA is right here, and gets a lot of daily visitors. Good luck with your sale! Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3491479 Share on other sites
+DarkLord
The STacy's are heavy. They're not really usually described as a "portable", but rather a "luggable". I've never seen a stock STacy with any kind of sticker like that. I'd imagine it was something a previous owner did. IIRC, stock models came with either a 10 or 20 meg hard drive. Mine was a 20, and it was deader than a door nail on arrival. In fact, it was burnt it was so dead (the drive, not the STacy). If you do something like put an Ultrasatan or the likes inside and remove that old hard drive setup, you'll save a bit of weight right there. Congratulations and I hope it works fine. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3491506 Share on other sites

The picture/label on the bottom of the case gives the polarity, as well as on the external P/S itself. IIRC. HTHs. Yep but the label on the external PSU has the opposite opinion on the polarity to the label on the bottom of my STacy, and a slightly different voltage too. Sent from my Galaxy Note Edge using Tapatalk Before you take it apart, you should read up about how to take it apart on the internet first. I know there are websites about it. Just google it. I don't recall the exact procedure, but I remember you have to take off the "Atari Stacy2" label sticker under the LCD to access the screws there first. Then you have to take apart the screen to access the main board. Very weird I know. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3491539 Share on other sites

Bama
ZAP, Thanks for your advice. A forum user I respect suggested I post here and Atari-Forum initially and then eBay. Glad to know, I have under priced this STacy. I will look to posting on eBay and then post in AA market place. :-) 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3491618 Share on other sites

I don't think you've underpriced it; it's pretty battered - Zap's is in much better condition. Last year I paid half the amount that you are asking for one in better condition, but maybe I got a bargain- I don't know. If you think people on here are going to pay higher than eBay prices to someone with no forum reputation then you're going about this the wrong way and you should just see what you can get on eBay. Zap!
I just got home from work and the power supply arrived. I know I was advised to open it up and remove what's shaking around inside (presumably a screw) first, but I just couldn't wait, as I just had to test it out! So I plugged it in. Nothing. Oh wait, I didn't turn it on! So I flipped the switch... I hear it booting while I patiently wait. Then success! The screen comes up, and even better, the hard drive is fully operational! Not sure if the screen is slightly dim or not (as I've never used one before), but it's definitely readable. Anyway, I will test it more tomorrow. I'd like to get sysinfo.prg up and running to test out the TOS and some other things. Anything else I should do before I open it up and clean it? Here are some pics. Please let me know if you see anything interesting. Can't wait to go through the HD, it's like going back in time! 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3492095 Share on other sites
TheNameOfTheGame
NIce! Should be a blast going through the hard drive. I would be hesitant to power that back on before opening it up in case whatever is bouncing around inside is conductive. That would suck to short something out! 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/251483-i-am-now-the-proud-owner-of-a-stacy/#findComment-3492155 Share on other sites
Clint Thompson
Cubase, Neochrome AND Hotz Box software? That's awesome =) I'm interested in seeing what the Hotz Box audio software looks like when loaded. You wouldn't be able to use it without the board but still. +DarkLord
Hard to tell from pictures sometimes but your screen looks to be in pretty good shape, IMHO. When I first got mine (and actually got it running), I'd set in the kitchen with the lights turned off at night just so I could see the screen decently. Because I have Atari Stacy (Not sure which version 1 ? 2 or 4). Will check it again.
