Goochman
The Phone Line Surge Protectors provide some filtering which could cause some issues - that would be my best guess. I know I tried a Cable Surge Protector and my cable modem stopped working - Cable TV worked fine though
JagChris
I did some reading up on DSL last night. You know those little filters or whatever that you are suppose to put on every other phone line except the DSL line to your computer? I think he has one of those filters on his DSL line to the comp now that I think of it.
Hyper_Eye
Well that wont work. The point of the filters is to filter out the dsl for the phones. Otherwise you would hear a pretty horrid sound through the phone. Having one of those filters on the dsl line is going to extremely dampen the dsl signal if not remove it completely. LinkoVitch
not really you SHOULD have those filters. The ones I have have 2 sockets, one for the DSL modem/router the other for a phone. The idea is that they filter the signal FOR the DSL.. if you plug a phone right into the line you won't hear the DSL signal, but you will likley degrade the signal quality to the DSL hardware, it will still work but not at optimum performance. Matthias
Hello! Sorry, no real update, haven't worked on the topic for months (neither software nor hardware). It just seems that i don't have the proper hw-related skills (PCB-layout and SMD-soldering) to proceed successfully (at least if the combination of ethernet and FLASH is desired). TheGrandPubaa
So, from a layman's standpoint, what does this mean for the Ethernet Project? Is it dead, or do you think you will be able to finish it eventually?
vanadium
How about a straight Flash cart, Matthias? I'm definitely in the market for one, and I'm sure there are probably others. I can't find anyone willing to give one up, and I'd be willing to pay decently.
Matthias
Hello! No, the project isn't abandoned, it just suffers from lengthy breaks. About the FLASH-only idea: I still prefer to have an ethernet-solution on that new cartridge, it would solve some important problems: 1) Having a operatingsystem-platform-independant solution for exchanging data with the Jaguar. 2) And hopefully provide a stable and fast way to connect Jaguars. TheGrandPubaa
Yeah, same here. I hope you find a way to complete it, Matthias. Good luck to you.
tiw
since I have worked in electronics for years, I have no problem doing surface mount soldering and have my own tools to do so. So all i would need is the bare PCB, parts list and software...
doctorclu
Well, ever since Aliens Vs. Predator I have been dusting off my Jaguar, and the games, and the Atari 800 and that ethernet project, and I have to admit that I am curious about the Jaguar ethernet project. So how is that coming along? Just wanted to know if anything new has happened since June. Thanks! (BTW... birthday in two weeks!!) BuzzTron451
You mean...The Atari Jaguar can play over the internet?
doctorclu
Well, that would make for some great games of Battlespherre. But at this time Ultra Vortek is the only game that is playable over a phone line with the Jaguar moodem. The ethernet module is mainly to get the Jaguar to do some webbrowsing, load in a game here and there, that sort of thing. Doctor Clu
Matthias
Hello! You mean...The Atari Jaguar can play over the internet? I never got around to write a networked game utilizing the ethernet-card, but of course it would be possible to use the card for this, at least running the webserver and webbrowser on the Jaguar with the card proves this. doctorclu
I'd buy... what's the price? $150? Sounds good. (Or whatever the price comes out to be.)
philipj
I hope they release a version of this cartridge soon... I think the time is ripe for a new way of programming the Jaguar with the release of the Krocodile Kart and all. I have a feeling that 2600 development will sky rocket when the Krocodile cart is finally released. It would certainly be the ideal time to release something new for the Jaguar while game development is still fresh; we may as well strike the iron while it's hot. justclaws
Hello, I hope they release a version of this cartridge soon... Remember "they" is just "him". One man. Matthias Domin. Well the Jaguar has plenty of solutions... BJL mod, Protector SE with BJL, BJL boot CD, BS and BSG with JUGS, not to mention Protector SE, BSG and B&C CD "bypass" solutions if you want to boot unencrypted CD's such as download homebrews... The real problem is lack of Jaguar programmers with any time... Cheers, JustClaws.
philipj
I'm trying my luck out with BJL... I've been having a time trying to get the address to my printer. Over at "Jaysmith2000" I started a thread over there in the homebrew section on "Everything BJL" to try and get as much BJL info as one can get. The Ehternet card looks to be a much faster and easier solution kind of like the Krocodile cart or the Cuttle Cart; just plug-n-play. http://jaysmith2000.ipbhost.com
justclaws
Hello, I'm trying my luck out with BJL... I've been having a time trying to get the address to my printer. Over at "Jaysmith2000" I started a thread over there in the homebrew section on "Everything BJL" to try and get as much BJL info as one can get.So what information do you need? To load on most machines, under DOS (use a full screen "command" session if running Windows) it's really simple to get started. Type: "lo filename.bin" if filename.bin is a binary to load at HEX (0x4000/$4000) D:jaguar>loader usage: loader [-s skipbytes] [-b baseaddr] [-p lptbase] -f <filename> skipbytes is # bytes in header to skip. default = 0 baseaddr is addr to upload to. default = 0x00004000 lptbase specifies base addr of LPT port. default = 0x278 Most code uploads to the Jaguar to $4000, but better if you can to download a file with a .COF or preferably .JAG extension rather than a .BIN or .ABS as the former types include upload information in a header which the BJL loader can interpret and use automatically... The Ehternet card looks to be a much faster and easier solution kind of like the Krocodile cart or the Cuttle Cart; just plug-n-play. Well at the moment though, BJL is available and proven, and the ethernet card is currently only in development, so why wait, have fun now! With regard to speed, BJL can upload at nearly 100K per second... If you need help, and are still stuck, just let me know about it! Cheers, JustClaws.
