Room 34
I was playing Adventure Plus this morning (yes, I was SUPPOSED to be getting ready for work), level 3, and I found myself in a no-win situation. I know that in the original Adventure there are 18 starting configurations for the objects in the game, and I assume it's the same here. I think I found a problem with this particular configuration that makes it a no-win situation. I located the chalice, in the room of the red maze (in the white castle) that is accessible only with the bridge. The magnet was in there, too, and it naturally had drawn the chalice to it. Now, the problem: In order to get into that room, I had to use the bridge, and in order to get at the chalice, I had to use the bridge again in the room with the magnet. Of course, as soon as I released the bridge, the magnet drew it in, leaving me unable to get at the chalice OR to get out of the area I was now trapped in. I noticed, however, that this room has an opening at the bottom of the screen. Does that opening go somewhere (meaning there's another way in, which I haven't found yet), or is it just left there from the original game (where it exists, but is not really accessible from anywhere)? This leads me to another question... why IS that opening there in the original game anyway? Had W.R. planned a secret entrance into the white castle's maze and then abandoned the idea, neglecting to seal off that doorway in the red maze? +Atarius Maximus
Yeah, that is a problem, but there may have been a way out of it. If you saw that again, you could try the following: 1. Don't take the bridge into the room with the Chalice & Magnet right away. 2. Go grab the bat. 3. Take the bat back to that room, release him, and he'll probably grab either the chalice or the magnet and take it out of the room, dumping it somewhere else. See? I was just increasing the stragegy of the game! In all seriousness though, this game was not playtested nearly as much as the original, and I did my best to anticipate problems with object locations. I played Adventure well over 100+ times during the development of the hack, and I never ran across this situation, although I wasn't playing Level three every time. I could revisit this hack again and make some updates, although you would have to negotiate with Albert as to how to get your cart re-burned if an update is issued. And yes, the opening at the bottom of the red maze screen DOES go somewhere in Adventure Plus. Thanks for the feedback. AM
Room 34
Thanks for the tips... please don't take this as a criticism of your work, I think it is GREAT and I can't wait to spend more time playing it this weekend! I had a feeling that opening would go SOMEWHERE. I look forward to finding out. Oh, and kudos on the blue maze... it is WAY harder to figure out than the original one. (Heck... the original only took me about 3 minutes to figure out when I was EIGHT YEARS OLD and after several games, your new one still has me stumped... I just fumble around for a while until I end up where I need to be!) BTW, I went looking for your website about the game and noticed it's gone. Can you post the map graphic here? (Also, is there going to be an entry for this and some of the other new hacks in the AA database?) Thanks!

I really didn't take it as criticism, just happy to get some feedback. Glad you like playing it. Oh, and kudos on the blue maze... it is WAY harder to figure out than the original one. (Heck... the original only took me about 3 minutes to figure out when I was EIGHT YEARS OLD and after several games, your new one still has me stumped... I just fumble around for a while until I end up where I need to be!) I'm sure you'll have the maze memorized in no time. It's still only composed of 5 screens. I tried to make it as complex as I could, though. BTW, I went looking for your website about the game and noticed it's gone. Can you post the map graphic here? (Also, is there going to be an entry for this and some of the other new hacks in the AA database?) Both of my websites are down at the moment. I stripped everything out because I'm reducing my web hosting packages to save money. I'm losing a significant amount of disk space on the web server, so for now, I just removed everything, and I'll decide later what will fit back on. I just re-uploaded the map though, this link should work now: http://www.steveengelhardt.com/adventure+map.zip AM
Nukey Shay
Another solution would be to release the yellow key in the room (that object is the first one selected by the magnet). Then you can use the bridge with no problems. BTW there is a 1/14 chance that game 3 will start with a key locked in it's OWN castle in the original cart. Dunno if those odds are different in Adventure+ (?)
