roryjr
My son wants an SNES or some games for his 3 in 1 SNES emulator. We are looking on ebay, but I don't want to use paypal. I have seen ebay gift cards. I just want to make sure before I buy one, that I can use that to pay without going through paypal. Can I? BigO
"Do I need a PayPal account to use an eBay gift card? You need a PayPal account to use an eBay gift card. You can create a PayPal account any time, even after you've won an item." http://pages.ebay.com/giftcard/faqs.html
roryjr
So ebay doesn't work at all without a paypal account? I guess the only other option is to find a sell that will accept a money order in the mail? I don't think anyone does that anymore. HoshiChiri
I'm curious as to why you're against paypal as well, but it is required for Ebay. I suggest: 1- Telling us where you're located, in case someone is aware of a local shop you can try. 2- Amazon marketplace. You can use an Amazon giftcard balance to pay those guys. 3- Asking a friend with paypal to proxy for you. My fiancé dropped paypal after a fairly nasty fraud attempt, so they rare times he needs it I'm recruited to make the purchase.

Flojomojo
Using PayPal as a buyer is quite safe, you have a lot of protection. No one can pull from your bank account or card without your knowledge and permission. I could see trying to avoid PayPal as a seller, but this doesn't sound like your situation. What's your problem with it, besides "don't want to?"
BassGuitari
I remember the "good old days" of mailing a check or money order, waiting a couple days for it to reach the seller, waiting a few more days--sometimes up to a week!--for a check to clear (when applicable and depending on whether the seller was dragging his feet getting to the bank), and then of course the usual 2-4 days for shipping. On average, I'd get my item about two weeks from the date of purchase.I don't know how I ever lived without PayPal.
simbalion
When eBay went to paypal, I quit using it myself. I could understand using paypal as an option, but forcing me to use it seemed like an insult. I've managed to live quite happily without eBay and the sniping bidders on there since then.
roryjr
Ok. I have a paypal account. I don't want to use it because they decided to cancel a facility in my state that would have employed a bunch of people. They did this over a law that my legislature passed that, in essence, returned things to the way they were when they first decided to build here in the first place. There are places that I can go (an hour away) to find one, but my work schedule has made that difficult lately. He just got a bunch of birthday money and he loves the Sega Genesis (with Sega CD and 32x) and the SNES. Most of the Sega stuff came from ebay before the above situation. I have looked at Amazon, but, too often, the details are nowhere near as complete as ebay. I was reluctant to share my issue with paypal, but then I remembered that this is not Gamefaqs, where every thread devolves into bickering. Thanks guys. simbalion
I just don't buy enough to justify a paypal account on my end. What I wish eBay would do is what Amazon does, you can buy the gift cards and apply them to an account on the site. Good luck on your hunt! roryjr
I don't understand the point of ebay gift cards. Are they just prepaid credit cards that go through paypal? I have $2.60 ebay credit from a sale years ago. I haven't sold anything since. I guess that is the only way to use up the credit.

So you're going to boycott using a payment service because you want to discriminate against trans people? Well good luck with your SNES games and your kid, I guess.

Osgeld
Is this about the bathroom bill or not? You're the one asking for advice with your self-made problem. That's my thought, my other thought is that it's not really fair to be mad at a company offering hypothetical jobs that pulled out cause local government made the location toxic for the biz they were no doubt trying to entice with tax breaks and tax funded grants Get your SNES let PayPal take the5% from the seller and feel good knowing that money would t run their coffee machine for half a day Edited May 16, 2016 by Osgeld
Great Hierophant
I see no reason why a company should be expected to adhere to an announcement to build a facility in a state after that state passed a law antithetical to the company's values. North Carolina has no one to blame but itself by passing such a reactionary law requiring people to use bathrooms based on the gender they were given at birth. Maybe if a court strikes down that part of the law, PayPal may feel welcome to come back, but in the meantime I think it will find another state with a gender identity protection law. My state has one and our bathrooms are as safe as North Carolina's. Edited May 16, 2016 by Great Hierophant
HoshiChiri
I'm gonna save the politics for the correct sub-forum, you're certainly entitled to whatever reason you choose to not use a company (I was just curious, personally.) I know the Amazon Marketplace is a lot more work, since there's not much incentive to have a detailed listing- but consider it anyway. Good sellers will answer your emails for additional information pretty quickly, and the vague listing-style can help you get lower prices from time to time. I got a complete-in-box copy of Bust-A-Move Pocket in amazing condition for half the going price of Ebay just a couple weeks ago.
icemanxp300
My state has one and our bathrooms are as safe as North Carolina's. In YOUR opinion! Since people did not want to let this drop I will chime in. Males should uses a males bathroom and females should use a females bathroom. If you are not going to do that why even have two bathrooms at all? Go back to one at a time with a lock on the door! People especially females need privacy. You don't take away an entire genders rights and privacy because someone else "feels" unhappy. So just because a man feels like a woman does not mean you take away all other females privacy. If they want to be a woman bad enough they have a sex change then by all means use the bathroom you have parts for! All this does is open the door to pedophiles and rapist! Have some respect for the woman and children out there who are now going to be spied on by nasty men who abuse this law! I'll stand outside the bathroom when my wife is in it, I'll be damned if I let some "Buffalo Bill" go in. Like I said irreversible shit storm!

It's NOT okay for adult males to use the same bathrooms as little girls (or big girls for that matter).
