Did anyone pick this game up? I just heard about it recently, maybe a week ago. I saw it was made by Blizzard, and was digging the character designs I'd see, but after looking into it it appeared to me to be an online only multiplayer FPS PvP on a battlefield type game ala : Titanfall. Hearing that I lost interest pretty quick. Was just curious if anyone could confirm or deny that, and what you thought of the gameplay.

Yep, I only heard about it recently, watched one of the trailers, and went, "Meh".

I've got the same impression from friends who bought the full release, and I did play in the beta a bit. If you've ever played Team Fortress 2, imagine that with added people and elements from MOBA games. If not, then it's basically an online-only game where you go against other people trying to do some simple objectives, and there are classes (I think they call them "heros" or some crap but I've played TF2 since '07 - I'll stick to "classes") which each have special traits to them. You fight the other team, try to push forward with the objective to win, and that's about it.

I don't understand these releases. They basically take the online portion of most games that's usually tacked on to begin with, and make it a full release on it's own charging the same cost.

I might understand it if the game was say $29.99 at launch, or maybe even just a DLC game bought through the Online Store. Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely keep an eye off this one.

If you are into team online competitive games you should probably take a look at overwatch. I never played it, but it brings a lot of new things to FPS. It is a mix of a ton of things, and people who have played it seem to really enjoy the game.

Now wether it's worth 60 bucks and all that, I can't really say, but it seems to be very expensive for what they offer. Not sure wether balancing the game was that ridiculously expensive. The game doesn't have that many modes or maps. It does have 20 playable characters though. That's a lot of crap to do and balance...

I find it's the natural next step to attaching superficial multiplayer to single player games to justify using online connections as DRM. Now they're saying "screw the offline portion. cheaper to just build the weak online portion and let the players entertain themselves until we decide to yank the game."

ie: you can pretty much expect the trend to continue.

I just complained about this trend over in the forum about the new Doom, praising the new Doom for offering a single-player mode at all. With Overwatch, Battleborn, and StarWars Battlefront all going multiplayer only, I don't have many choices for new big-budget games coming out (and this may be largely why I've not yet jumped to the current gen and am still playing my 360 / PS3). I don't do multiplayer and have no interest in it. I saw a couple of reviews online of Overwatch that were upset that the PS4 version requires that you have PSPlus to play at all; I think the whole trend sucks completely.

Hmm....this post really makes me think twice. I may have to try this out sometime cause I fall into this category. In fact I may just buy this game after all:

"....but it feels specifically designed to be enjoyed by people who normally suck at this type of game.

The point of the game is not to run round the map, racking up headshots while yelling, “No-scoped, bitch!” and dipping your digital testicles onto the digital faces of your vanquished opponents. (If the previous sentence is completely befuddling to you, congratulations on your very fulfilling life.) In Overwatch, the goal is to use teamwork to complete the objective at hand. Many other first-person shooters carry the implied suggestion of teamwork, but Overwatch is the first one I’ve played that feel specifically engineered to require it. This is largely due to the characters—instead of having everyone control the same anonymous, bearded Navy SEAL, players get to choose from an eclectic cast of heroes, all of whom have specific strengths and weaknesses and special abilities.

You don’t succeed at this game by running off on your own and shooting people; you win by sticking with your teammates, complementing their attacks and abilities with your own, and just generally being chill and helpful. You can dominate an entire match without ever firing a single shot."

Hmmmm Sounds more like a FPS version of a game like Guild Wars and possibly World of Warcraft (Never have played WoW) but I have played Guild Wars, and the gameplay was very much what was being described.

I liked Team Fortress 2 for what it was, and this is like that. I understand the appeal of online-only games, and I'm sure this is a well-made one ...but I simply don't have the time/energy/interest to play it enough to be any good. Without practice and progress, online games are not much fun.

Those of you carping about online-only as DRM, good golly can't a developer earn a living?

Though as Cimerians points out, this is supposed to be nice to people like us, and Blizzard does like to polish things up well. Then again they said similar things about Titanfall ("its even fun when you lose!") but that didn't hook me.

Born too early for this kind of thing.
