dustfilledhobo
Can I steal a working keyboard from a broken C64 (breadbin) and install it, without modification, into a working C64c with a partially broken keyboard? Thanks.
carlsson
Yes. The only thing you might notice is that the cable length is a bit on the short side, or that the way you mount the keyboard into the case differs. The C64C came in at least two variants with different mounting. Electrically they're identical, so are VIC-20 keyboards for that matter.
Neo-Rio
Yep, they're all interchangeable.
carlsson
Actually if you burn your own Editor ROM on a PET/CBM 8032-SK or something similar in the range of PET/CBM computers, you can use a C64 keyboard mechanism on that too. Some keys will be missing, in particular numeric keyboard, but the design isn't that much different. See Steve Gray's website if you ever would need that functionality. http://www.6502.org/users/sjgray/projects/petkeyboard/index.html
7800fan
AFAIK the obscure C16 also works. Same keyboard design, even same case shell design but in black
Muzz73
Yeah... I have a bright red VIC-20 with a white keyboard from a 64C in it and it runs like a top.
