flea market intellivision with unusual feature

I found this inty in a flea market. I bought for the strange wire coming out of it.

I thought it was some sort of "video upgrade" like vga out or something....

But actually is just an antenna cable extender...

Why? what do you think of it?

By the way the image is terrible, with lots of "jailbars" in it....but otherwise works well, the controllers are ok.

My guess would be that the RF jack broke loose and the owner soldered a short replacement cable with a female jack onto the board to replace it. Same thing with the reset button. Both are probably more durable than the original parts.

I like that the European model Intellivision's power switch says Stand-by instead of Off. The only time it's truly off is when you pull the plug!

Thanks! Good guess... I'd had never thought of that....Somewhat I always suppose mods are always "adding" something, and are never made to repair....

The unshielded extension cable is probably picking up a lot of noise..

Thank you. This could be. Any ideas how can I shield that piece of wire? Because apart of that the unit looks pretty good...

You can replace it with a coaxial cable so that it can go directly to the television.

There is no reason to keep it as an RCA type.

Wrap aluminum foil around it 100% and ground it to the ground plane on the board. It might help some. Or replace it. Assuming that's the problem and it really isn't shielded.

I would 1st try a replacement that is properly shielded and see what happens.

Is it ray shielded? Will you have to use proton torpedoes?

(Sorry, couldn't resist. :P )

Those repairs are awesome! Whenever someone puts the effort to keep something like an old console working instead of trashing it, it just makes me happy.

:) I would open an intellivision just to clean it, but it's way beyond me to try to "replace" or "fix" something...

I could try "shielding" it anyway :)

....And it came with one (1) poker&blackjack inlay :) :)
