lazzeri
Gentlemen, As you are all well aware there´s a few atari boxes with quite unusual box sizes. I´m already using "classic" atari box protectors - the ones you find all around - but there´s a few models that won´t fit. Have any of you found any solution? Here´s the odd-sizes boxes that I do owe so I was able to measure them: So... Mithycon carts are almost the same size as VHS carts. I guess VHS protectors can be used without major hassle: http://lazzeri.online/vg/pics/IMG_3692.JPG Epyx boxes are a pain. I´ve tried a Vectrex protector, the boxes are taller than that. I have no idea what might work: http://lazzeri.online/vg/pics/IMG_3693.JPG Sega boxes fits inside a Vectrex protector. But is a sh*tty fit, protector is just too big. I guess you might try to cut a Vectrex box protector but that´s a hell of a job since you´ll have to rebuild the entire protector - even recreate flaps from scratch. http://lazzeri.online/vg/pics/IMG_3694.JPG And then there´s the really hard ones - the "fatty" boxes: Indy 500, Star Raiders, Phaser Patrol and Mistique. Does anybody in here tried to tackle this? Any suggestions?Thank you all in advance.

lazzeri
So... If anyone´s interested. After some research and some HUGE help from Dan Godkin from www.retroprotection.com i´ve managed to find some amazing fixes for some of those bizarre carts. (BTW, what a great guy Dan is. Really helpful and polite. I truly recommend him) Star Raiders: Super Smash Bros protector. Excellent fit in two dimensions. Indy 500: Windwaker box. Excellent fit in two dimensions. Phaser Patrol: Skyward Sword, near-perfect fit. Mithycon games: VHS protector. An inch taller but great on the other two. Sega games: INTV tall box, as Special Teams stated above. Perfect fit. Hope it helps!

lazzeri
And then there's these: Try to e-mail Dan with that measurements, he might be able to help. Maybe you might use Lynx box, or Virtual Boy, or something like that. ... I don't think we can find something great for 4-Game Brazilian carts with switches. :-(
Konqrr
What about the 20th Century Fox games? They seem just a tad bit too thick for the standard Atari 2600 box protectors.

Konqrr
Standard protector worked just fine for me! Out of my six 20th Century Fox games, only Fantastic Voyage and Worm War I fit. The other 4 are too thick... I can't be the only one with this problem. Are there any box protectors that will work for these?

I can't be the only one with this problem. Are there any box protectors that will work for these? I´ve noticed that I have two slighty different standard protectors, one of them is a little thicker by one or two millimeters. The thinner one won´t fit an Arcadia 2001 game; the thicker, does. Unfortunatey I don´t remember were I got the slighty thicker one. Probably was the first batch I got on eBay many years ago. Oh dear. +sixersfan105
Any suggestions for Atari XEGS game boxes? Currently building my game room and this post has been helpful. Was this ever answered? I had heard they're a different size than standard 2600/5200/7800 boxes and also different than 8-bit computer boxes. I'll soon have some XEGS game boxes so I can measure them out myself, but wanted to see if there's already a box protector solution that I haven't come across on these forums or elsewhere. Thanks! JayAre
Just to echo lazzeri's comment, Dan at retroprotection.com has an amazing selection of box protectors, and he's incredibly helpful. I've communicated with Dan in the past & have identified which protectors fit these odd-sized 2600 boxes. I thought I'd pass this info. along to you guys, as it might be helpful. Aside from the ones lazzeri already pointed out in this thread, below I'm detailing the protector (in bold) as referenced on Dan's site, along with the 2600 games that will fit; I'm also attaching pics. Most are a great fit; some are a bit loose but still do a nice job. If you guys have any other odd-sized boxes not shown here, you can send me the box dimensions, and I can check the protectors I have to see which one provides the best fit. Or you can always contact Dan. Super Smash Bros. - Action Pak & Star Raiders Atari Adult - Mystique & Playaround games Fire Emblem Fates - 20th Century Fox games Sega 32X TALL for Special-Sized Games or Intellivision TALL Box - either of these protectors work for SEGA games. But for the games w/ gatefold boxes (i.e. Tac-Scan & Sub Scan) which are a bit thicker, the Sega 32X TALL (shown in the picture) is a slightly better fit; if ordering this protector, contact Dan first, as it hasn't been added to the site yet PS VITA 1000 Models Console - Omega Race Star Wars Vintage - EPYX games, IMAGIC "cheap packaging" & BOING! Star Wars Elite Standard - Track & Field Marvel Vintage - Berenstain Bears KID VID Game Set Amiibo Guardian - TRON Special Pack Funko Freddy Rides - Back to School Pak & Racing Pak Four Swords Gamecube - Superman w/ promotional wallet Vectrex - Stella Gets a New Brain CD w/ booklet TurboGrafx 16 MINI - Gameline Master Module Edited October 25, 2020 by JayAre

It really is amazing just how many different sized boxes there were for the 2600. And then you have the Joyboard, the two Milton Bradley games, Kid Vid Voice Module and Video Reflex/Video Jogger/Foot Craz Pad set. But those are way too big for protectors. reklen
The Fire emblems fates also, barely fits the 2600 ghostbusters, and the thicker later activision boxes like Pitfall 2
reklen
He has a competitor in the same city, ironically. The Competitor's boxes are pretty much interchangeable, but his 2600 cases are a little bit bigger, fit the 20th Century fox games and the Arcadia Games perfectly, i just don't like them for the regular 2600 boxes.
Swami
Slightly off topic, but I am looking for box protectors to fit the Cote Gamers big box games which are 1 and 5/8 inches thick (3/4" more than normal 2600 box), 5 and 5/8 inches wide (1/8 inch more) and the same height. I see some possible contenders above, but the retroprotectors website has no measurements from what I can tell.
Lord Innit
I'm wondering if there is anything that closely fits the smaller PAL Internation Edition Activision boxes.

JayAre
I just received my latest order of box protectors from retroprotection.com, and I thought I'd update this thread with some more 2600 odd-sized boxes which haven't been covered yet in this thread. I'm indicating (in bold) the name of the protector, as it appears on the retroprotection.com website. Maybe some of you are looking for protectors for these boxes; I hope the information is helpful. Zelda Four Swords Gamecube - Limited Edition games currently being released by Atari Atari Adult - Activision "big box" games; these were a bit thicker than standard boxes Fire Emblem 30th Shadow Dragon - M*A*S*H t-shirt bundle Power Rangers 2 Pack - Alamogordo landfill game & paperwork (first batch of games that was sold several years ago) #37 Red Wii - Kid Vid Voice Module 2600 Console VHS Box And these are the only 2600 games in my collection for which I haven't been able to find protectors. Too grande!
