CyberTaco
I recently bought my first 2600 ever the other day! (I had it's competitor, Intellivision, when I was a kid.) I have a question, though: What's currently the highest quality AV mod commonly available *right now*? My Google-Fu only turns up confusing tidbits about mods that aren't available anymore, ones 'coming soon' but not released, schematic-only things, etc. I'm thinking people with your expertise who live the Atari life every day will have a more comprehensive answer. For what it's worth, I'm looking for something that's prebuilt and ready to wire in to my 4 switch woody model, best quality available, and that's for sale currently. What would you folks recommend? tschak909
2600RGB + Framemeister XRGB scaler: http://etim.net.au/2600rgb/ https://solarisjapan.com/products/xrgb-mini-framemeister-compact-up-scaler-unit Best picture output, period (mostly because it can actually properly handle the input, without blending or chopping frames, not to mention the quality of the output). No contest. -Thom
CyberTaco
Er, whoa. Ok, yep, I know I said I was looking for best quality, but the $300+ Framemeister is a bit more than I was expecting. My fault, I got what I asked for good and hard. I'll bet that looks beautiful, though. Crap, there's one more thing I should mention - I'm looking for composite (Right/Left/Video RCA jacks) output. CyberTaco
Oh, the 2600RGB supports composite! Great! Does it look good even without the Framemeister?
CyberTaco
Aww, it's not sold preassembled.
tschak909
Yes, it does. It has a great S-video and composite out. Of all of the modifications out there, this is the cadillac. -Thom
Trinity
A good old CRT TV with a fresh tube ftw.
Jeremy Popp
If you check ebay, there are a few of the basic mods out there. I use the 1 transistor, 2 resistor which is the most common/basic one. I'm sure there are better ones, but on a CRT, it looks great. I wouldn't say night and day, but no static/interference to worry about and good colors. TheRedEye
No contest. -Thom I find the input lag introduced by the Framemeister completely unacceptable for games that require precision timing, especially paddle games (and yes, I'm a Framemeister owner and lover). As far as I'm concerned 2600 is CRT or bust, I don't think you can get away with any lag.
tschak909
strange, I don't see any lag, even with run of the mill AV upscalers, but I've made sure that my TV is set to Game Mode, and turned off ALL of the extra features. -Thom

No contest. -Thom Don't. Just get the mod board itself, and instead of that frame eister thingy get a good pvm monitor...
MacrosCode
Is there any hardware shop in europe where you can get one like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-7800-Composite-Video-Mod-Upgrade-Kit-DIY-/300592126324?hash=item45fcafd974:m:mjyZk3U_a7jYA4o6YoJN0Cg Edited August 19, 2016 by MacrosCode
