Man, it's been nearly 4 years since I've updated this thread. Well, a lot has happened.

Over the past year, we have completely renovated our house, and one of the best parts is I was able to separate my office from my game room. And it's a much larger room with a closet.

Here's a view of the space:

Around the corner to the left is a stairway to our new attic, and up there is storage and all my music gear. This room was designed as a bedroom, so that means it has a closet. And that got me thinking... could I add shelves in the closet and stuff my game collection in there?

The answer is YES. These were in my old game room at the back, and they fit nicely here. But how much could I get in here?

Turns out I can get about 90% of my collection in here. Nice!

Even the light switch for the closet got a makeover.

This mess is the next thing I need to deal with. I want to wire all of these consoles so they can be played at any time while making it clean and neat. I have my work cut out for me. There are a few consoles that didn't make the cut... yet. My 2600, 5200, 7800, Jaguar, INTV, and Colecovision are still in storage, for now. I may A/V mod some of those in the future, but that leads me to my next topic: I also want to add a CRT to the setup. This will allow me to use RF stuff and the older consoles will look better on one anyway, even though I do have a proper upscaler (RetroTink 2X Pro).

I have this Samsung that I bought new back in 2000, but it's not playing nice after being in storage for a few years.

I cleaned it up and had to repair the power cord (got cut somehow in storage). It powers up but doesn't get a video signal through the A/V ports. I might be in the market for a replacement if I can't fix it. I did take it apart and looked at the video board, and it has some corrosion and who knows what else is wrong with it. It was a cheap TV back then and feels worse now (the case especially feels like it's paper thin and can break at any time), but it did have a nice picture for what it was.

It's all a work in progress, but I'm already really happy with where this is going.

After looking around all week for a different, better, and working CRT and completely striking out, I turned my attention back to the Samsung I currently had. I pulled the back off again and stared at the board looking for broken solder joints, and that's when I realized something:

The bare pins under the Composite AV stack on the back should have a ribbon connector going to it! The ribbon connector, along with another small one on the opposite side of the board, link the rear inputs to the front ones. If they are disconnected, neither the front or rear AV jacks will function. I plugged those back in and we were in business!

Testing with my NES, it works as well as it ever did. Phone pics don't do a good job at capturing the picture quality, but it's not bad at all. The one issue is that there is discoloration on the upper right corner of the tube.

I ordered a degaussing wand to try and correct this. We'll see how that works.

I also wall-mounted the Panasonic plasma on an articulating mount.

Now, I need to get a TV cart for the CRT as well as routing all the wiring for the various consoles. Progress!
