tons of micoplayer pros, $40

most of them should be arcade ports, except Street Fighter 2, probably Genesis:

most of the arcade games are vertical,

and the galaga one should have a joystick on it.

will be picking up some of them, the pac-man and atari ones,

maybe even the galaga one.

These using Android? That Pac-Man cabby could be something special if it can be coaxed into running other vertical games. (It would probably need buttons, though.)

maybe, but there's no point, just use retroarch on the namco museum:

I'm the guy who tested two hundred games on the Namco Museum cabinet! I'd know a thing or two about that system. However, it's kind of big. Also, over the course of various experiments, my Namco Museum cabinet isn't what you'd call factory fresh. Also also, it doesn't run many games particularly well. I want an arcade cabinet-shaped system that doesn't take up a colossal amount of space and isn't built from some ten year old technology that drags ass like a dog in heat.

not only are these about the same size, but they probably have a less powerful chip, since they only have to play 1 or 2 games.

(i'm not talking about the pocket versions which are even less powerful)

not sure why you would think these are any better.

the namco museum is the peak of commercial arcade emulators in a small package at an affordable price.

or just get glenns build a cade if you want more options, better power, and excellent controls:

Berzerk and Frenzy were programmed by the redoubtable @PacManPlus, which has gotten me thinking about buying one. I may have to wait and hope they are not kickstarter only, though.

I purchased them on the kickstarter right away, because unless they sell poorly like the previous Robotech and Rainbow Brite, the price will probably only go up later.

But you never know!

It looks like @PacManPlus’s original rom had both games selectable. Is that true for these as well? I don’t know how long I will last in Frenzy but it does improve the value proposition.

I actually had no knowledge of who programmed them until you mentioned it here, thank you for that information!👍

Nice to see that Pacmanplus saw your post also and chipped in with some information about the units and I would certainly appreciate even more fun facts on them if possible. 🫰🙏

I did see on the Kickstarter page that it was stated as one game per unit so that's probably why Pacmanplus was asked to separate the games.

I'm pretty sure the design of the units and the units screens were meant to complement only each individual game that comes with it,so you have a more arcade game feel from each one.

Or something like that! 😄

*Edit* - I was able to add a specific speech sample to Frenzy because of this ('Robot Attack')

This is so cool. Congrats @PacManPlus on getting your games immortalized with this new series of mini arcade cabs.👍

Thanks for stopping by and chiming into the conversation!👍

I am looking forward to checking out your work and playing the games on the mini machines.

I have probably missed out on whatever gaming programming you have done as I have been an avid Intellivision collector  and im not very familiar with the Colecovision homebrew side of things.

Are your versions much different than the originals?

I have never actually played Frenzy so I wouldn't notice the difference anyway...

Just curious,I am interested in your work!😊

I like the look of just the Top Gear (Top Racer) one, talked to Piko about it as he owns the game(licensed?) and controls its releases and he said it was the genesis release put onto that mini arcade.  I'm only familiar with the SNES version but it couldn't all that bad I'd think.  I'm tempted, really tempted.

So I was also able to add one more speech sample to Frenzy: when the player kills Evil Otto (though he has a different name in Frenzy which escapes me at the moment). "Charge! Attack! Shoot! Kill! Destroy!"

BTW, there aren't more speech samples in Berzerk because I ran out of room; samples can only be added in a certain address range, and to add more would cause the ROM to have to be bank-switched.  That was something I didn't want to do.

So does Berserk at least have all of its original speech samples then? 😎

From Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berzerk_(video_game)

The game's voice synthesizer generates speech for the robots during certain in-game events:

"Coin detected in pocket": During attract mode, specifically while showing the high score list.
"Intruder alert! Intruder alert!": Spoken when Evil Otto appears.
"The humanoid must not escape" or "The intruder must not escape": Heard when the player escapes a room after destroying every robot.
"Chicken, fight like a robot": Heard when the player escapes a room without destroying every robot.

"Got the humanoid, got the intruder!": Heard when the player loses a life (the "got the intruder" part is a minor third higher than the "got the humanoid" part).

There is random robot chatter playing in the background, with phrases usually consisting of "Charge", "Attack", "Kill", "Destroy", "Shoot", or "Get", followed by "The Humanoid", "The intruder", "it", or "the chicken" (the last only if the player got the "Chicken, fight like a robot" message from the previous room), creating sentences such as "Attack it", "Get the Humanoid", "Destroy the intruder", "Kill the chicken", and so on.

Right now, Berzerk only has:

- Intruder Alert

- The Humanoid Must Not Escape

- Chicken, Fight Like A Robot

- Coin Detected In Pocket

Frenzy has:

- Robot Attack (When Otto enters)

- Charge Attack Shoot Kill Destroy (When Otto is killed)

I couldn't fit individual words, or other sayings in the memory area / size that I wanted, so I went with the most common.  The only other one I would have liked to fit in there was "Got The Humanoid, Got The Intruder/Chicken", but I could not (not for lack of me trying).  I tried to fit it in where 'Coin Detected In Pocket' was, but there wasn't enough room for the entire phrase.

The last thing I wanted to do was to make the game bank switched.  Also, on the NES you are limited to the memory area where you can place the samples.

Thanks,

Bob

Wow now that's nice, and a standard older school style Gameboy vertical profile handheld at that, comfy!  Taito is nice, but few games there appeal to me enough but most those Capcom games are favorites.  The list alone for $60 justifies that price, but strangely (and not, it's blaze involvement) the core is the same as the evercade so those carts work too.  I don't think I'd care to go down that rabbit hole ever again, but the option being there is huge.  I know where I've seen a cart or two about in places before even around here, so if I saw them again, the games were more something I'd use and it was a fair price to my concerns that's just more to throw at it.

I just preordered these from New Wave Toys.

They look pretty nice, but they are not cheap.

To make the price more appealing insert the 20% off code GOBERZERK (all caps) at checkout.

That makes it reasonable.

Funny these were produced right after the Coleco Revival mini versions of all the games to choose from. Oh well!
