The goal was to keep the basic TGI very small as most people care only about sprites. For my own text I use mainly C-code for drawing text. I start by drawing the font as a bitmap and then I create a font out of it. I guess I will get my prototype a little farther and see if I want to finish before committing the time to making the vertical font. The drawing portion looks straight forward at least.
