Tempest
I know there were several productivity programs that used two disk drives, but were there any games? I seem to recall that some Synapse text adventures did (Brimstone, Mind Wheel, etc).

Rybags
I think AR: City might have as well. I actually do recall playing at least one of them with 4 drives in emulation. I don't think there's many. In fact besides adventure games there are very few games that actively access the drive in dynamic fashion while gameplay is going on. Even the AR games stop the action though the music continues thanks to the custom SIO routines.

DavidMil
I thought everybody played the Ultima series. What was the name of the game that had the big lion or tiger guys and Luke Skywalker and then all had been digitized? Seven Cities of Gold. There were other, but it's 1AM here and I'm too tired to think of any more. DavidMil

+therealbountybob
Ultima III is much more playable with 2 drives. Did "Mail Order Monsters" support 2 drives? I never had two until more recent times, and it was a real spoiler having to keep swap disks... might have to play it again
Gunstar
The Synapse/Broderbund electronic novels Brimstone, Essex and one other I forget, actually REQUIRE 2 disk drives and will not work with just one!

Mind Wheel I think. I thought there was a game series that required two drives.

kiwilove
One game that can benefit from 4 disk drives is Hawkquest. There is a modified version of this at www,hawkquest.tripod.com I know it worked via emulation -when I tested it a long time ago, and I can only guess it could be rewritten back to floppy? maybe for those who have 4 disk drives? It plays much better without having to flip/swap disks. It does remain a PAL only game. While the Hawkquest graphics have been re-used in AtariBLAST! - you should note that they have been tweaked/upgraded and updated to 2016 and look pretty amazing now? Stormtrooper of Death
I have 4 1050 diskdrives. USed to play Ultima IV with the extra drives.
Tempest
Can you use two different kinds of drives? Say a 1050 and an 810? I can't see why not.
Gunstar
Yes, the drive type does not matter as long as the disks are single density.
