Level42
Well since I now have (almost) the "perfect" Lynx and since I've been discovering a lot of "new" games using the brilliant SD card, I kinda missed some things....that is .....info. I would love to be able to reference (ASCII) texts on the Lynx directly. Thinking of: - game manuals - game codes (like all codes for all levels of Chip's Challenge, Zendocon etc. etc.) - cheats info/codes I used to have a stack of printed out A4's in my Lynx bag to reference these codes and info, but.....we have an electronic device in our hands that should be able to show this info in a simple way. I'm not really thinking of fancy stuff, if it was only text that would be just fine for me. But....it _should_ allow selecting a certain game name and then showing the info.... Now most of the games have the information readily available like f.i. here: http://www.consoledatabase.com/cheats/atarilynx/ I'm sure there are ASCII versions of the manuals but I didn't search. For me the game codes would already be awesome to have.....it's the best alternative to being able to actually save a game state.... I'm pretty sure there are coders here that could make something simple like this.....right ? Edited October 2, 2016 by Level42
Level42
Thinking a bit longer about this: I'm not sure if it is at all possible to let the Lynx access (ASCII) files directly on the SD card ? Because normally, when you select a game, it is "Programming" the game to the RAM on the SD card..... So I think that same "system" will have to be used for an ASCII viewer like this ? So the maximum size would be 512k, but that is a lot of ASCII text....it should be possible
bdoi
Hi level42 here is a book with lot of game codes (like all codes for all levels of Chip's Challenge, Zendocon etc. etc.) - cheats info/codes I know it isn't the version you want , just a paper version but it helps a lot I think http://atariage.com/forums/topic/207470-atari-lynx-hint-book/?hl=%2Bhint+%2Bbooks
GadgetUK
Totally possible to allow the menu to read a text file and display it - perhaps using opt 2 button?, just a question of finding time.
Moo
Does the SD cart have a menu you can access in-game? If it does then I suppose a text manual would be possible. Otherwise if it just programs the cart to act like a cart it probably won't have the memory left to do anything else.

That would be brilliant indeed ! Search the game name, hit Option 2, reference the info you need, then with some button exit back to the menu and another button starts the game....yes...awesome.... If you have a hint where you left time, I can help you find it :D If any document preparation would need to be done I can of course help ! No menu to access in-game, that would require an OS hack I guess (to scan for key codes and initiate the response...) but it's kinda hard to hack the built-in OS of the Lynx....which is in the chip-set. It works like you describe in your last sentence. That is why GadgetUK's idea to access and show the info from the menu is a brilliant idea.
