+arcadeshopper
I do this mod to Williams arcade boards that use the 4116 ram.. luckily they are all socketed so it's pretty easy.. The 4116 and 4164 chips are nearly identical with two exceptions so if you cut off pin 1, and bend out pin 8, trim and jumper to pin 9 you have a 4116 replacement that uses less power, lower heat and higher reliability. comments? +OLD CS1
I suppose D7 does not care about having VCC (+5V) attached, just makes it logic-high forever, yeah?

+OLD CS1
I like it. I was thinking it is a shame to waste 48kb (bits) of memory, but the 4164s are likely much easier to find (and I will be looking to upgrade a couple of Commodore REUs,) and maybe with a little extra logic one could make the VDP's 16k space bank-switchable.
+arcadeshopper
I am now carrying a small pcboard that does all this for you. you mearly solder the 4164 to the board and then solder pin headers to the board for connecting to the motherboard.. easy https://arcadeshopper.com/wp#!/4164-adapter-pcb-for-4116-ram/p/202875952/category=0
