+Schmitzi
Before saving, did you set the drive type for DSK1 to "3" (classic.ini) ? Does the file exist ? (Size>0)
Sinphaltimus
Before saving, did you set the drive type for DSK1 to "3" (classic.ini) ? Does the file exist ? (Size?) No. I never touch the ini. I change drive type via the GUI (fiad or dsk).
+Schmitzi
Classic99 does not write to DSK-files. I check the ini-file every time I have mounted a .DSK (and want to write to it) like: [Disk1]Type=3 <--- hint hintPath=D:\Programme\classic99\DSK1\bla.dsk
Sinphaltimus
Oh. So I can just insert my own DSK (using FIAD fioles instead) to say DSK2 and all will be fine? Ok then. I will go try that now. I have a quest....Yes, that works. I'm off to clear level 1 again. I feel weak... better drink this potion...NNNNNOOOOOooooo!!!!! +Schmitzi
For FIAD, I don´t know. I think, this maybe should write, because it is not inside a DSK but an own file in the directory.... But I never have used FIAD
Sinphaltimus
Yeah I set DSK2 to FIAD and all is well.
Tursi
Use FIAD to write to disk in Classic99. If you set your disk type to 3 in the INI you do so at your own risk. I'll get around to making that official someday - that day will lift the restrictions that make it risky.

Sinphaltimus
I have not yet successfully completed the game using the warrior after several attempts. I'm giving it 2 hours a week. Will report back this coming weekend. So far everything Sean's pretty solid and working. No complaints.

Sinphaltimus
What level have you reached so far? Level 4. And no, I don't think it is too difficult, I think my strategy wasn't a good one. I need to better time my heals during battle. Sinphaltimus
I think so, haven't played since 2 Fridays so (no play this weekend due to holiday). It was a big mean looking character.
+Vorticon
I have yet to play it. Too much going on with work unfortunately. I do have some downtime next week so hopefully I can try it out.

+Vorticon
So I finally got the chance to read the manual and start playing it as a magic user. First impression: One gets sucked into the game very quickly and it plays extremely well. Really impressive work for an XB game. Unfortunately, there was a bug in your error trapping which crashed the game for me (very upsetting as I was just starting to build up my character!). I had forgotten that one cannot save to DSK images in Classic99, and as I was trying to save my progress an error occurred in line 2010 and the game crashed. I think in this type of game error trapping should be rock solid if saving is going to be allowed so as not to lose an entire gaming session or a laboriously built up character. I'm going to try playing it on real iron, but right now my system is in pieces as I work on replacing my PEB's PS... Overall great work! I was able to save progress with no issues by not using dsk files with classic99. Instead, configure classic99 to point to a fiad file in a directory and you will be fine. +Vorticon
Yup I'm aware of that, but that's not the point. Even on real hardware, disk failures can occur and error trapping should allow one to recover and correct the issue rather than lose the entire gaming session... Opry99er
Epic, dude... That manual is legit!!! Reminds me of MG manuals for some reason. Very VERY nice. Easily one of my favorite games that has come out in the last couple years... Although my OCD level-clearing strategy gets me killed from.time to time. Thanks for the great game!

+adamantyr
Any manuals still available for purchase? Yes there is! Just PM me the request with a PayPal attached-email address and an up to date mailing address and I'll send the postage request. ($3 for a padded envelope anywhere in the states, or $1 if you want me to just stick it in a flat one and risk it getting folded/damaged, or if it has to be sent internationally. Trust me, you DON'T want to know shipping rates for international packages.)
Barry Nelson
You should probably remove the warranty on page 12 of the manual and replace it with a proper disclaimer, just in case. I like the game, but I do wish the game supported the joystick for move and attack, but I understand it would not be practical to play the game with just the joystick anyway.
