I have new daughterboards in stock.. a few anyway..

And I'm working on my backlog :P finally got everything set up at the warehouse workbench and now it's just time

Can I order you a pizza or something?!? :) Sadly - I finally broke down and bought a bench magnifier - eyesight at 50 is starting to drop off... :(

Here's an idea we're working on. Hard to case this though so may end up a little bigger.. you could put a short or long extension cable on the TI side if you wanted a cable..

It would truly make it a must-have is if it could also include a straight pass-thru connector as well, so one would not have to remove it to plug in TI joysticks. I know, I know, why would anyone WANT to plug in TI joysticks (maybe I'm nuts - I like em for Slymoids), but the MBX also uses the joystick port. They wouldn't have to work simultaneously, I'd just much rather wear-out an add-on adapter plugging and unplugging stuff than the only joystick port the TI console has!

And it is one thing no other joystick adapter offers

PeBo, there are other things that the pass-through would be useful for as well: there are at least two third-party joysticks with a TI pinout (Personal Peripherals Inc. Super Stik and Amiga Power Sticks); the MBX uses the port; Joyprint uses it; and lastly, the X-10 Interace uses it. Note that in the case of the third-party joysticks, both of them were also made with the standard Atari pinout, so you have to look for the part number to be sure you have the right type (IIRC, the TI variants included two joysticks on a "Y" cable, whereas the other variants were always a single joystick).

How about a short cable you can unplug from the adapter, not the console and then plug whatever into that?

Well that would work to be sure, but then I'd be more likely to just get the cable instead of the adapter (already have a Wico Command Control, and a couple standard Y cable adapters).

What sparked my interest in your proposed design is that it is a board that plugs directly into the console - a design which would be defeated by the addition of a cable. An adapter that offered on board support for both TI and 3rd party controllers/devices (switchable or with some kind of cut-off) would really bring something new to the table.

With a 2.5cm space between the port and the bottom of the console, there should be more than enough vertical real-estate for a TI connector below the Atari connectors (easily said since I'm not concerning myself with the logistics of wiring and switching), and heck, being direct-connect it would amount to being our first left-side sidecar device.

Not even Milton Bradley pulled that off!

I will have the y cables on the site. We're trying to make it cheap and easy so probably will offer options of cables to extend out if people want them and also the option to add 5v to the atari joystick ports for use with rapid fire/trackball/etc that require it.

Not sure how many games benefit from auto-fire... So I added a power supply to my homebrew joystick adapter for player-1, just to see..

Seemed like in parsec, you could shoot a little longer without overheating...

Didn't seem to matter in killer caterpiller.

Shooting Stars, on the other hand... I got to level M and gave up... I realized something was up when I got to level ';'... too busy shooting at stars to look at the screen.

Saddly, the only autofire joystick I have is also the absolute worst joystick I have :) But it seemed to test out well.

Also, inconvenient, ground for the power supply goes to Atari pin 8. Which is also player 1 and player 2 on the two different port when adapted to a TI. Hooking them together to ground on a power supply would break having player 1 and player 2, as they would be joined. I'm sure this is basic electronics... But I cannot reason it out... If I put diodes between the ground junction and pin 8's that'll stop it from joining, but will also stop power flow to the rapid fire circuit...

Has this been solved before?
