RickR
Check it out. Forum member grips03 made me a converter for using an Atari joystick on an Odyssey 2 with detachable joysticks. Blasphemy? Maybe a little. But my O2 joysticks are pretty worn out. It works great! He did a very nice job.
BillLoguidice
Very nice. I'd be interested in the same type of adapters if the price is right.
+grips03
Very nice. I'd be interested in the same type of adapters if the price is right. Price is $15. Can ship up to (3) for $4. Cable can be 6.5 inches (default length) or up to ~70 inches, same price.

+grips03
I ran out of Norcomp db9 shells, so going forward I need to make with Amp db9 shells. Amp db9 shell looks like this:
jimj
I just had two of grips03 newer "Norcomp db9 shell" adapters delivered today. As you can tell from the pic they look nice and he delivered them quickly.

Prosystemsearch
Okay, which models of the Odyssey 2/G7000 have controllers that are detachable from the box(aka without having to do modding of any kind to the system)? I do know that the earliest of the Odyssey 2 systems in North America have grey fire buttons, while all other batches have the fire button red, and that the European G7000 has no built-in power button, and the fire button is black. Why won't the VCS/2600, Master system, Genesis nor Colecovison controllers work properly on any of the detachable controller Odyssey 2s on their own? :? metarog
The BJ7600 GY02 and BK7600 GY02 models both had removable joysticks. There are black with red action button removables as well (I have 2). The reason other joysticks like Genesis and Atari don't work correctly is that the pinouts are different. If you read further up this thread there is a pinout for each.

I think it's the earliest models that have detachable joysticks. Consider them like "heavy sixers" of Odyssey 2's! Mine has silver joysticks with silver buttons. The converter allows me to use an Atari joystick, which is wrong, but oh-so-right at the same time.
+sixersfan105
@grips03 are you still making these adapters? Someone inquired about the concept of such an adapter on an O2 Facebook group recently and I thought I'd check in. Thanks!

Lost Monkey
I ended up making "permanent" adapters for my hardwired O2. I now have short (maybe 6") plugs coming out the back of the O2, into which all manner of Atari 2600 compatible controllers may be connected.

bretthorror
Would anyone happen to know if silver Odyssey 2 joysticks will work on the console with the hardwired controllers with the red button if you open it up and plug it in? Or is there an adapter that is available that would make it work?

alex_79
Pin numbering for D-sub connector is standard: from left to right on male connectors and from right to left for female ones. Atari (and O2) joystick plugs are female connectors, while the console ports are male ones.
tripletopper
Hey there, lost monkey. Do you have a video showing what's involved on turning a hardwired Odyssey 2 into a DB9 based Odyssey 2 where you could use either the real Odyssey 2 DB9 joysticks or attach a sadgirlsrecords adapter to the DB9? If so can I either use it to do it myself or show it to a local computer repairman?( if it's more complex than something one who installed Intellivision flashback adapters can handle?) Lost Monkey
Essentially I cut the connectors off the faulty O2 joysticks I had and wired a cable with a female DB9 and the O2 connectors on either end. The unit also had major scratches and scuffs so I used some body filler and a lot of sanding and painted the casing. The logo is a water slide decal with a clear coat. The pinout for the wiring is available on this page: https://odyssey2.info/articles/2600joysticks/ Edited September 7 by Lost Monkey felt like it
