Modding Arcade Power Stick

Has anyone ever attempted to install microswitches on a US Power Arcade Stick? I saw someone do it recently with a 2600 controller. I use my Sega Arcade power stick religiously on my 7800, and have just started noticing how "Squishy" it is. A bit of google fu has lead me to believe the japanese release of this arcade stick used microswitches, but hunting one down appears to be costly, what with the low production of anything Genesis in Japan. Still, just it's existence gives me hope.
