128Kgames
I've always wanted an Intellivion, a friend had one growing up and I used to love playing sea battle, and usually won. So with having recently pre-ordered the Sydney Hunter & The Sacred Tribe – Limited Edition I thought it might be a good idea to finally get a console to play it on. I like the look of the Intellivision III in black, should go nice next to my ColecoVision and Vectrex, not so much a fan of the original with the woodgrain, and with my Atari 2600/Sears Video Arcade and my Bally/Astrocade collection, I've got plenty of woodgrain consoles to go around. I have seen the Intellivision III in pics and I have also seen an Intellivision Super Pro System on eBay, and aside my the gaudy label on the Super Pro System is the only other difference the controller? Is that a snap on joystick that goes on top of the disc or does it replace it entirely? Can't really find too much information about whats different about them so if anyone here could enlighten me, that would be appreciated. Also, feel free to chime in with any thought or preferences on which one you would buy and why, I would welcome the input in helping me make a decision. Rev
I think they are essentially the same. Except Super Pro has a nicer looking box.

mr_me
I thought the joystick was a snap-on sold separately. Like Rev says, they are essentially the same. The bottom label is the same and the serial numbers are mixed. I think the only difference is the silver top plate stickers and packaging. My guess is the name and packaging difference may have been for certain retailers, I'm guessing. There is differences within these systems. The early ones had different keypads. There's anecdotal evidence that some might have Intellivision II exec roms but that hasn't been proven.

There is one on eBay (Super Pro) that shows the joystick on one of the controllers on the box, which is why I assumed it came with it/them. I can't get to eBay from work but I'll try and post the link later when I get home.

BillLoguidice
this one: Yep. I have those too. I personally never really thought they improved much of anything, so I don't use them anymore. It would have been wonderful if we got a true 16 direction handheld joystick version of the traditional Intellivision gamepad.
mr_me
But thumb control is more comfortable than a handheld joystick.
BillLoguidice
But thumb control is more comfortable than a handheld joystick. I personally think a ColecoVision controller modded with a suitable ball top is pretty comfortable. I almost wonder if the best type of control disc replacement on an Intellivision controller would be something like the d-pad found on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. That's a great compromise between a flat d-pad and a joystick that is still usable with just a thumb.
