Some progress to report. Mike and Paul have managed to recover

the software from the original floppy's.

Also, they have an ST booting up with the DC-Port attached, and

talking to a PC via the serial port.

Pictures attached...

Pretty amazed myself that this stuff still all worked. I didn't remember my Supra HD being like a jet engine when I turned it on. But

it did and ran like a champ. At this point, if you can find a BBS software that will work on multiple lines or one you can modify to access

DC Port (should not be too difficult) you should be good to go.

After thinking this over for a bit, I'm not so sure. A few years ago Lonny Pursell, who frequents both Atari Age and Atari

Forum, and who I have found to be very knowledgeable, was kind enough to disassemble BBS Express! ST Pro for me,

in an attempt to rewrite the code governing the serial ports and their speeds. We were trying to see if it would be easy

to get Express to recognize faster ports like those that exist in the Mega STe and Falcon (or some of the aftermarket

add on boards, one of which I have).

After spending some time on it, Lonny's conclusion was that nothing short of a major rewrite would work, so it was

never attempted.

This is an educated guess mind you, and I'm no expert, but I think it would take a major overhaul of most BBS programs

to recognize and work with DC-Port.

I think plee is eluding to an existing bbs program that has the original source code available. ;)

Not to long ago someone sent me the source code to ForeSight BBS if you are interested.

Hey Lonny! Ah, I see.

The only other multi-line Atari based BBS software that I know of is Octopus. I could be

wrong though (this is besides Michtron BBS v3.0 of course). Are there any others?

I think I played around with Forem one time. I never cared for it, but thanks for the offer.

Followed the link in his sig - can get to the website but links

to Octopus were blank.

No big deal. I actually tried out Octopus back in the day. It

was an impressive effort but again, for whatever reason, I

didn't stick with it. I think I've tried just about every Atari ST

BBS software there is, but for some reason I always return

to BBS Express! ST Pro. <shrugs> :)

I think it was just a blog entry about it. You would have to PM piku to see if he'd share. However, I get what you are saying, I'm the same way with certain things. ;)

I'll have to get with him... Might be helpful if I ever decide to work on that multi BBS myself.

I loaded it up really quickly at work on Thursday, it seems like a cool board. The configuration seems a bit ridged, but it seems easy enough to setup. Once I get a ST working I'll have to further test it. Full source, in any condition is cool!

I hope I find some free time to tinker with it.
