Rhindle the Dragon
I'm continuing this from my latest blog post, Two Fries and a Hamburger, so that "All may benefit from discussion". After installing a composite mod on my Atari, the voltage regulator failed and took a couple of RIOTs with it. Another user suggested I just replace the VR, that it would work better because it's new. Is this a good idea? And do the new regulators fit the old cage heat sinks? BigO
That regulator is a common, standard part. The the only challenge I would expect in swapping it out is maybe the regulator is riveted to the board/heat sink. BigO
If so, all you gotta do is snip or drill that puppy out! Yep. It's absolutely doable. I would be totally comfortable drilling or filing/grinding away the rivet. Just throwing out a caveat in case someone else isn't.
