I have a MiST and two MiSTers (one in a Checkmate 1500 mini case).  I still think the MiST is a little more convenient in its size, and the built in connections makes it better in many ways.

ÉclaireXL is a much more complete recreation of the Atari 8bit Hardware:

 

* 2 joystick ports with paddle support and output support (new version has 4 ports)

* Cartridge port

* SIO port

 

So yes, i think it is still relevant.

The idea of Éclaire XL is very appealing , but MiSTer is available

mister lacks SIO and PBI ports which the eclairXL has.
