Cartridge Carrying Case

I have a bunch of loose carts. (Atari 2600/7800 VIC-20, C-64 etc...) and I just have them all stored, stacked up in a big entertainment center cupboard. Looking for a better way to store them. Thinking about something like those old soft cassette carrying cases people used to use in the 80-90s for their cassettes. I have some of the old vintage cart cases and plastic cart holders, but they don't hold many carts. I'm thinking of something like 40 or 50 carts at a time. Was just curious if anyone else had some simple storage solutions for loose carts. Preferably something the carts *just-fit-in* as the purpose is to try and conserve some space in my room!

Shoebox wouldn't hold as many carts as I was hoping.I thought about something like what you use, but I want something more streamlined, that doesn't take up much space.

 

Maybe something like these, but that could accommodate cartridges.

Next time I'm at Home Depot, I'll keep an eye out for something similar that held the games tighter. Something you can just open up and see every cart top label. Was hoping folks had their own solutions for storing loose carts to give me ideas. I can't tell you how many times I've grabbed a cart from the center of my stack and the whole stack toppled. Maybe I just need to find the right type of cardboard box.

I've used storage containers like these and does a nice job. The Sterilite branded ones I thought were perfect were't being manufactured the exact size anymore. A problem for me was it being hidden away to easy

 

I found a few shallow VHS storage shelves at local recycle facility and re-purposed them making carts more accessible.

 

trouble here is dust and even being shallow can tend to be a catch-all Plexiglas doors would be nice

Wound up heading to my local Home Depot with some measurements and found a nice, lidded container similar to the one Atarian7 posted.

Was looking for one that was at least 13 1/2 inches wide (4 rows of carts) and about 5 inches deep. They were around 6 bucks and I needed two of them.

If you can find the old wooden coke crates/cases(for bottles) they hold atari games like they were made for them. You can nail/screw them to the wall and make a really cool looking display. Plus when you add games, just get more wooden crates.

 

If you can't find the coke or pepsi or 7up wooden cases, the craft stores(like Michaels) usually carry generic wooden crates. They look cool and if you are good with a wood burning iron, you could burn in a cool Atari logo on the side of the crate.
