Your beta .004 version is much better gameplay than beta .003, good job! I like how the colors resemble Wall Jump Ninja too!

Missiles: That might be possible with missiles but they share the same colour as P0 or P1 so when the bird got close there wouldn't be enough time to change the colour back to the bird or egg.

 

Ball: I think if the egg was always far enough away from the sides of the walls there would be enough time to change the colour of the Ball (shares the same colour as the PF).

Another issue is that with both the ball or missile you're limited to the sizes of 1, 2, 4 & 8 which might be difficult to draw a nicely shaped egg from those widths. Maybe a 2, 4, 4, 4, 2 egg might look okay? Right now the egg looks like it's 2, 4, 4, 6, 6, 6, 4, 2.

 

Really fun game to play!

 

A suggestion (not sure if it's possible): To prevent the P1 flickering, you could put in the Missiles/Ball objects for drawing the eggs.

Excellent reasoning! I overlooked that fact that missiles share the same color as their player object.

 

In theory it could work with the Ball object, even a size of 6 is possible by doing a cycle-exact hack (i.e. setting the Ball to a size of 8 and then while the TIA is drawing disable the BALL object at the right time).

But that's not a feasible solution anymore if you would like to move the egg during the game.

 

Anyway, on second thought, the flashing of the egg didn't affect the game-play for me; it even helped me locating the egg while I was avoiding the spikes.
