Room 34
How about... Q: Can I just make up any Pitfall!-related question I want and get the damn prize already? A: No. Sorry... I'm having a bad day at work.
MegaManFan
How about Q: Since there's no damn chance in hell I'll figure the puzzle out, can I just buy the prize? I already know the A: though, and it's no.
Room 34
Actually, someone was just auctioning a CIB Room of Doom on eBay a few days ago. Looks like it closed already though because I couldn't find it now.
Thomas Jentzsch
Both question and answer are incorrect. You're definitely on the right track, though. I had expected that, but somebody had to start, else we might do this forever. And next week I have no internet access for three days, so I better hurry to solve the puzzle until Sunday. Room 34
Well it was only at about $20 when I saw it and I don't think it had that much time left. I'll see if I can track it down and find out what it finally went for.
+Nathan Strum
I think krisjohn was really, really close, several days ago. He wrote: Sorry, I meant "Alan Hewston". ... who holds the Twin Galaxies world record for Pitfall II adv. ed. Unfortunately, he also wrote: 99,000 points. Which is the wrong score. So, I'm just going to leech off everyone else, and make a guess: Q. What is Pitfall II Adventurer's Edition max possible score? A. 199,000 (Apologies in advance if this is correct.) +Nathan Strum
Well... as long as I'm here, I'll re-guess. If it isn't solved by the time I get back, I'll actually do some research. Q. What is Pitfall II Adventurer's Edition max possible score? A. 300,
Pitfall Harry
If 300,000 wasn't right when Thomas guessed it, then you can be certain it wasn't right when you guessed it either. Ben

Pitfall Harry
Now that the question has been successfully guessed, here's how you'd go about finding it: The gold letters can be anagrammed into THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO There are 12 Activision game titles found in the first level of the wordsearch which are not in straight line paths. The letters at the knee point of each of these titles can be arranged to spell FOLD IT IN HALF. Combining the two phrases gives THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO FOLD IT IN HALF Fold the wordsearch in half diagonally, so that the upper right corner meets the lower left corner. Doing so will make all 23 of the gold letters touch 23 white letters. These 23 white letters are what are hinted at by "the golden touch." How is an egg like a golden crown? Each is an example of gold touching only white. The yolk of an egg touches only white. The golden crown of a tooth rests atop the white of a tooth. The 23 white letters touched by gold spell out IS PITFALL II EDITION SCORE. You should be able to deduce this from the clue given at the start of the contest: THE GOLDEN TOUCH: ?I?F?L? ?S ??IT?O? S?O?? I? There are 26 words to be found in the second level of the word search. The silver letters assist you in finding them and let you know when you've found all there is to find. Each word will pass through a silver letter. The knee points of the 26 letters spell out WHAT ADVENTURERS MAX POSSIBLE. You should be able to deduce this from the clue given at the start of the contest: SILVER KNEE PADS: ??V???U???? M?? W??? P????B?? Combining the Silver and Gold anagrams yields the puzzle's ultimate secret: WHAT IS PITFALL II ADVENTURERS EDITION MAX POSSIBLE SCORE Now, if only somebody could come up with the right answer... Room 34
OK... Who will win the contest now? Nathan provided the correct question, but not the correct answer. The correct question is now public knowledge, so whoever provides the correct answer (Russ, if he's right) will also only really be providing half of what's required to win. Damn... I knew I had to fold it in half diagonally but I was so locked into trying to make it fit the Pitfall II Level 2 map that I never even thought about how the letters within the puzzle itself touched when you did that. Shawn Jefferson
I never would have figured out the folding it in half diagonally... well maybe, but then to figure out which letters were touched by gold letters.. I don't know. I didn't think that we needed to also say the question, since it is now public knowledge... Hey, when you guys post your guesses, don't forget to add in the amount for starting, 4000 according to the manual. I'm a little unsure of whether the question is just for one map of Pitfall II, or the whole game. I assumed the whole game when coming up with my number... I have no idea if that is right, but 414,000 just sounds like a good number! LOL! I can see MMF crossing his fingers in front of his screen right now! Unless I get it. Not likely though. Damn... I knew I had to fold it in half diagonally but I was so locked into trying to make it fit the Pitfall II Level 2 map that I never even thought about how the letters within the puzzle itself touched when you did that. I had done that earlier - I'd folded the map vertically, and looked at the letters of various colors that touched, and found nothing. Then, once I found out about skipping every other letter, I gave up on the "touching" idea. I did try folding the map diagonally, but I wasn't looking for touching letters anymore - I was still skipping letters. Another guess (just in case Ben took the screenshot on the Pitfall II page): Q.
