crtfreak
Spring Cleaning time. Need to make room for more stuff to collect lol $80 for both plus actual shipping. Free matching monitor just pay shipping. Has a couple issues see post #2 for details and pics. I have two Packard Bell 486 desktop computers. They each have a 486SX/25 with 4mb ram. One has a CD Rom with PCI card installed. Also included is a Intel Overdrive 486/66 that can be installed in either of them. The Packard Bell PB 610 was actually my first 486 pc. It has worked great all these years. I did pick up the Intel Overdrive 66 to give it a speed boost a few years ago but never got around to installing it. I played hours of Jurassic Park on it. To many to count really The Packard Bell Multimedia I picked up a few years ago. Never used it much. It most likely needs a new cmos batter. It sometimes wont boot with out a couple reset, and sometimes it boots perfectly fine each and ever time. I asked a hardware nut who deals with retro pc and he suggested it was the cmos battery. Also because the cmos batter is probably dead It will ask you to run setup after each boot because of a disk drive b failure. There is no disk drive b installed only A drive (floppy)and the CD-Rom which it thinks is disk drive B on boot till MS-Dos loads the driver. You can skip it an hit F1 and it will boot MS-Dos/Windows then load the CD-Rom driver accordingly BLACK NEC MONITOR NOT INCLUDED OR FOR SALE Edited June 20, 2017 by crtfreak Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/264862-fs-2-retro-486-doswin-31-computers-plus-extras/ Share on other sites
crtfreak
FREE MATCHING MONITOR JUST PAY SHIPPING This monitor originally came with the PB 610 it still works. However the image is off center, its higher up up and a small portion of the top it cut off. The knobs on the front wont move it down enough, not sure if they need cleaning. Most likely there are pots on the board that need to be adjusted. Also the power button wont stay clicked in the on position, its been this way since i was a kid. I would just place a small piece of cardboard under it when pushed in. Worked for me as a kid and still works today. Again because of the monitor adjustments that needs to be done and the nature of shipping old crt's its sold as is free to buyer just pay shipping. Please view the photo below comparing Jurassic park on the Packard Bell monitor to the black NEC monitor to see the cut off I'm talking about Edited April 25, 2017 by crtfreak Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/264862-fs-2-retro-486-doswin-31-computers-plus-extras/#findComment-3749292 Share on other sites
+-^CrossBow^-
The Drive B error could be that the wrong cable end is connected on the floppy itself. And I'm curious about the overdrive CPU as I always wondered how they performed next to a dedicated DX processor. I had the same multi-media PB and used it for several years. It too came with an 486-SX 25. But I quickly changed it out with an actual DX-66 in it. It was also the first computer I figured out how to overclock before that was a thing. There are jumpers on the sys board to set the clock speeds. I ran my DX-66 at 88mhz until I got rid of it several years later for my first actual Pentium build. Really never understood the hate that the PBs received back in the day and especially now. They were just generic clones like anything else back then. Put a decent vid card in it, really decent sound card and you were rocking with the best of them. Are the Power supplies in them still original? crtfreak
If I remember correctly from researching before buying this particular overdrive is a DX/66 just branded as an Overdrive. I never got around to installing it but I do have the diagram of the motherboards to set the jumpers for both systems. Both systems are original hardware. Psu are original an work fan is more audibal on one but nothing to indicate any issues I've actually owned a few Packered Bell systems and never had an issue. My next system I upgraded to was a Oackered Bell pentium 120 which I still have an it runs great to this day with a 3dfx card installed. I'll be listing that one soon as well Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/264862-fs-2-retro-486-doswin-31-computers-plus-extras/#findComment-3749369 Share on other sites

I was big into that stuff when i was a kid, but that was so long ago. mrunincredible
I know it's been a few years but do you still have these computers in storage by any chance? I'd be very interested in purchasing if so.
