Lead! Lead!! Lead!!! *runs around screaming with excitement*

 

Okay, now that I got that out of my system this should be an interesting two weeks. Lead is pretty much tied with Dungeon for my favorite Atari 2600 homebrew, I like Wall Jump Ninja a whole lot but don't think I'm very good at it, and I've never played Oystron before.

 

 

Quick rules question about Lead though: Would I be correct in assuming that we're playing with no continues?

 

 

Bonus: If I could make any homebrew game I wanted for the Atari 2600 it would be a light gun game, specifically a de-make of The House of the Dead. I'd make it a side-scrolling game like Alien Brigade on the 7800 but with all the creatures and locations from the original The House of the Dead arcade game, including the bosses at the end of each level. I think the 2600 could really use a new light gun game. :)

 

P.S.: If I could create a homebrew game for any system at all then a good port of the original Mortal Kombat for the Atari Jaguar would be my #1 priority. The Jag needs Mortal Kombat like nobody's business!

BONUS: I have a couple of games I would like to make for homebrew Atari 2600 (and hopefully, I WILL, eventually!). I would like to make a shaving game where you shave various body parts for different levels of difficulty: legs, armpits, back, arms, mustache, monobrow, face, head, nether regions, etc. Hair will grow constantly, too, just at different speeds, or not at all (for beginning levels). There would be a secret ending for the beard level, where if you just leave it alone, and let it grow full on, you automatically win as NATURAL MAN, lol. And I just gave away the secret.

 

The other game I want to make is tentatively called "Parasite Hunter" where you shrink down really little and go inside bodies to destroy the parasites from within! I would like for this one to be somewhat realistic and educational, where the parasites you kill are based on real parasites living creatures can get, and you kill them with methods that are really used to eradicate them. Candida yeast infections making bloated bellies on people can be fought, too! Just hero work on a miniaturized level. Different animals and people could be levels (such as the snails that crawl to the tops of trees with their parasite-ridden eyestalks acting as beacons to flying birds, crying out "EAT ME! EAT ME!") , as well as different locations (like sheep flukes in human hearts, tape worms in the intestines, the aforementioned candida, etc.).

 

As a side project, I would reprogram Chase the Chuckwagon to NOT restart the timer of paralyzation every time Chuckie is stunned to allow for less frustrating gameplay. :-)

@Jin -- correct, continues are not allowed in Lead.

 

Thanks for the clarification! There wouldn't really be any point in using continues in Lead anyway if you're going for a high score, since continuing wipes out your score and starts you on a harder level than you would have started from if you just began a new game after dying. :)

Bonus: Years ago, I was working on a port of the game show, Card Sharks. The trivia question part was simplified into a number guessing game, and the rest played as normal. It was about halfway finished when I got bogged down with different computer AI, unlockable personalities, etc. Note to programmers: Finish the basic game first, then add the special features...

Maybe someday I'll take another crack at it, for the 7800.

I gave Oystron a few tries and I think that was enough for me. This game seriously needs a seizure warning on it, because every time the screen flashes like crazy in the warp section after the oystron bosses it makes me feel like I'm gonna toss my cookies. :woozy:

I'm done with Osytron for this round, but I'll keep working on my Wall Jump Ninja and Lead scores over the next couple weeks. And oh, S.BAZ, don't forget to tack on 2 bonus points to my Lead score for breaking the previous HSC record please. :)

Oystron on the GBA Activision Anthology OK to play?

Unless otherwise noted by S.BAZ, who has the final word, Oystron MUST BE PLAYED on Atari 2600 VCS, using your console or Stella Emulator.

 

By 2600 HSC Rules:

"...please stay away from "questionable" emulation, such as DCStella (as it does not seem to run at full speed) as well as the 10-in-1 joysticks with Atari games, the Atari Flashback, or the Intellivision collection CD's and similar commercial products. Usually these games are not emulated properly (or, in fact, completely rewritten!), which leads to slightly different gameplay and different scoring. Also, you have to play the actual 2600 version for your score... scores from (for example) the 5200 or ColecoVision port will not count. However, if these options are easier for you, then it may be worthwhile to practice with these games before taking a real run on an actual system or emulator."

Bonus: I suppose it would be kind of a cop-out to say I would make the game I already made, which can be purchased in the AtariAge store (plug: link in my signature), or even the sequel in progress (more plugging: also linked in my signature) so my official answer is: Kampervan!

 

A few years ago, the first 2600 game I ever tried making was a port of Monaco GP, a game I loved playing in a tiny arcade in a mall that was on death's door even in the early 80's. Since then, the concept has evolved from a straight-up port to a game in which the player has to get his slow and somewhat unreliable WV camper van to the campsite before dark. Inspired by actual events.

BONUS: I would make the classic arcade game PEPPER II as a homebrew, whose game variations are based on ColecoVision port.

 

Game 0: Easy Difficulty, 5 lives to start and 1 player (enemies at slow speed, called Roaming Eyes)

Game 1: Arcade Difficulty, 3 lives to start and 1 player (like on Arcade port)

Game 2: Expert Difficulty, 3 lives to start and 1 player (enemies at fast speed)

Games 3, 4 and 5 are the 2-player versions of Games 0, 1 and 2, respectively

Difficulty Switches has no function for this homebrew and Game 1 is the DEFAULT variation

Just to let the 2600 HSClubers know, PEPPER II is my TOP favorite game on ColecoVision port, and I consider the most irresistible game of all. In the previous week, I spent hours trying the CV games, starting with Arcade Classics (Q*Bert, Centipede, Gorf etc.) and Activision games (Beamrider and Keystone Kapers), using the emulator called COLEM.
