Ants (WIP)

So I've decided to make a game for the Jaguar that works, dammit. This second attempt is called "Ants," based on my other, non-stickman game that didn't get very far. I need help, though. I need someone to design a better ant graphic, 2-walk animation, where each ant graphic is 16x16 pixels. I'd also like someone to test out what I have so far to make sure it works on a real Jaguar. All I have done so far is the title screen, so don't expect anything fancy. I also would like feedback on the music. How loud is it? How loud should it be? Stuff like that.

I made my own .mod file, and it turned out to be a whopping 127KB, but I put it in there and it works okay and loops good. I think this music gives the player an eerie sense more than the old music though, which is what I am going for (ants invading your house is eerie, right?) Let me know what you think.

I have gotten the angriest I think I've ever gotten with this stupid next update. Nothing seemed to want to work. Parts of code kept ignoring me, it was horrible. And all I wanted to do was add a counter to press Option, but when I clearly typed in OPTION in the code, in Virtual Jaguar, it was PAUSE I had to press. But the counter didn't even want to show up, and other times it showed up but the title screen didn't. But I did it.

I tried all night and could not get text to work. I tried everything and it just won't get in there. I've had multiple VirtualJag crashes, countless refigurings, and I just can't do it. So unless you can, I'm calling this project dead because it needs a score. Below is a link to the whole project.

Unfortunately not.

 

Anyway, I somehow magically got the size of the game down from 1.03MB down to 766KB. Apparently the Jaguar elves sort of helped. I tried to make pictures with an 8 bitmap depth, but the computer screws them up once I save them. That is why they were showing up as all screwed up. So I went back to 24 bitmap depth and they're good again. And yet the file size went down. How odd.

Added in the arm. Is it okay if it's like this, where the top of the arm is in the black space up at the top? It's okay if it won't show up on real hardware, I just want to know if it's allowable. Also, you can move the arm around with the D-pad and press B to make a squishing motion. I am also wondering how to make it so that only the tip of the finger registers a hit instead of all of the arm. I'm imagining a 3d effect here.

You can now squish the ants! Since this is testing the ant collision registers, the ant disappears when it's squished so when you squish all three, there isn't really anything more to do. This, of course, will change. But I think I'll take a few days' break from this.

Maybe use the hitpoints flags so you have to squish it 2-3 times, and change its colour/slow it down on each squish until its dead?

 

Seriously, making them suffer like that? I can already hear the animal rights activists outside... :)
