Humblejack
Hi All, I have a guy on the east coast with a 2609 problem. Here is what he sent me. I'm hoping you might be able to provide some advice for me. The unit works when booted up. Unfortunately after about 15 minutes of consecutive play it starts to glitch. This happens on all 4 games I have. Plays fine for about 10-12 minutes and then start to glitch at about 15 minutes. Let the unit cool down for about 30 minutes-45 minutes and it goes back to normal. Any advice? Bad processor? I think it is the power supply board but could be wrong. First: What do you experts out there think? Second: If most think that is the problem can someone near the east coast that can send him a board and I will pay for the board and the shipping, or replace the board to you at one of the conventions. Any and all help will be appreciated. HJ
+KylJoy
Does he have a dog or cat? Take apart and vacuum the pet hair out. Probably a capacitor issue but can't be sure. If it has not been recapped I would buy a kit and replace all of the capacitors since it is old and needs it anyway. The electrolytics will leak and cause damage if not replaced and these things are getting OLD!

+KylJoy
What was the issue? Thanks in advance!
Humblejack
The first cart he put in had some gunk in it and so all the following carts had the same problem making him think it was a hardware issue. He sent me a video of the glitch and it did not seem like a heat problem so I asked him to check the contacts.
+KylJoy
Thanks for replying. It's always good to hear what the actual issue was. Congrats on the fix!
DadsGlasses
I am the buyer. HJ was extremely helpful all throughout the entire sales process. I have never owned an Intellivision before. I purchased a few carts at a local "retro game" store. One of the carts wouldn't play when I inserted it. I cleaned the contacts and then it would play. Soon after that I started noticing that all 4 games that I had would glitch at about 10 minutes into play. I posted a video of a game on Twin Galaxies and a few experienced Intellivision players noticed the glitch on the video. I reached out to HJ to ask for advice. I bought the unit "as is" and was not expecting any replacement parts, just hoping for some advice. HJ went above and beyond and offered to replace the power board if necessary. He also recommended cleaning the carts and input contacts. I think everyone, myself included, assumed it was a heat issue based on the fact that it was only happening after about 10 + minutes of gameplay. Anyway, long story short: HJ is an exceptional seller. He definitely went above and beyond to help me on the front and back end of the sale. He also recommended that I join atariAge and I am thankful for that. Thanks again HJ for a nice sale. Thanks to everyone in this thread that offered help. +thegoldenband
Glad this had a good ending! Unfortunately I have an Intellivision with the same issue and it's not the carts, but some sort of overheating problem (which was common in the original model Intellivision). I hope yours stays happy for many years to come.

A series of "O"'s are traveling in the wrong direction. https://youtu.be/YF5MtDonKyY
Humblejack
If you find it is a heat problem I have several power boards. If you have an extra console switch the power board and see if that is the probem.

Thanks for the kind words, but really it just treating others as I like to be treated and seeing people enjoy their Intellivision.
