Guest LiqMat
I have a fairly basic Amiga 2000 that I restored and modded. It has the factory 1MB RAM and the standard OCS. I upgraded from the v1.2 KS ROM to v2.04. All I do with this machine is the old floppy games from the early days of the Amiga. It has no hard drive, but I did install a Lotharek Rev F HxC SD drive. I also installed an Indivision ECS Scandoubler - http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=918¤cy=USD- which I am trying to upgrade its firmware. The problem is the firmware image is exactly 1MB and the Lotharek drive cannot read Amiga HD 1.76MB floppy images. Is there a HD style solution without buying an antiquated HD card and drive? Something that will act like a HD. I know the Amiga 1200 has items like this, but was not sure about the 2000. All this just to get this firmware updated that is just a tad bigger than 880K. This is where the firmware for the Scandoubler lives and I am upgrading from v1.01 to v1.15. http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/Indivision_ECS Thanks for any ideas.
Sinphaltimus
I believe this is what you want. http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=67110 Also, I think HxC firmware for GoTek reads HD. But you'll need to mod your GoTek for a third button and lcd display. HxC also costs $10 Edited June 6, 2017 by Sinphaltimus
Guest LiqMat
Thanks for the response. I guess I wasn't clear. I am looking for a piece of hardware that will act like a hard drive. I would rather not invest in an original hard drive controller and drive. It would be awesome if these HxC drives could mount hard drive images. Yes it would be slow, but it would serve the purpose I need. I might be approaching this problem completely wrong. Anyway, thanks for any help. Guest LiqMat
So I got a response from Jean Francois of HxC2001 who makes the HxC Rev F drive. The response for those interested: "if you have the drive id circuit on your amiga, this is maybe possible. otherwise you to build this patch yourself..."http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=59158http://eab.abime.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=28629&d=1305025457 I am decent with a soldering iron, but this is definitely over my head. Guess I will just have to invest in a hard drive setup eventually. So reading Amiga HD 1.76MB floppy images on the HxC Rev F drive is just not going to happen in my case. Sinphaltimus
Depending on your budget there are accelerator cards with ide for using a cf card as a hard drive. You can also use a card adaptor with an sd card. Simple Google "Amiga 2000 cf card ide" for your options. Guest LiqMat
Thanks for the info. Got another message from Jean Francois of HxC2001 and the good news is the next HxC drive should have those HD 1.76 options. "the next hxc will have these specific features include, but this is not yet available..." - Jean Francois
Sinphaltimus
Hrm. I should contact him to see if that will be in the firmware for gotek. I'm assuming you're not talking about a GoTek drive right?
Guest LiqMat
As pictured above I am strictly referring to the Lotharek Rev F SD HxC drive. http://lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=
eightbit
If you have a SCSI card (GVP or Commodore) you can use one of these: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1264 I have one in my A2000 currently using a GVP card. It works great, but it is a little picky. I have not been able to get anything beyond a 4GB partition to work reliably. I have a 32GB card in it (because that is what I had available at the time) but with a 4GB partition. 8GB partitions always corrupted. But, 4GB is pretty much enough anyway (every OCS/ECS WHDLoad games fits)
