Trying to Review Every Neo Geo Game on Youtube

Recommended Posts

Sorry. I guess I thought the game was okay when I was younger, but couldn't find enough to redeem it now, and thus came up with the thesis of my video.

But please tell me why it's great. I do actually want to be enlightened on this, and I'm open to changing my mind.

I just said I love it for what it is, I never said it was great.  Final Fight set a fairly high bar.  I just think for what it is, trying to be like that game, it does a good enough job as FF is just as stretched out, quarter hungry, cheap and repetitive.  It's just more loved as it wasn't left to be forgotten I think.  It's not my only brawler though as I also have stuff like Mutation Nation which is fantastic.

Very nice, a favorite of mine I guess like now what 30 years about?  I made it a mission to snap that up after I realized it wasn't on the 161 that came with my system and a small stack of legit games a few years back.  That, Magician Lord, Cyberlip, NAM came to mind not on there.

Wow harsh on Ghost Pilots.  Sure it's not the best, but the worst?  That's not it either.  It's just a game of the time, squarely in quality between using Capcom here 1942 and 1943/Kai.  I own the cart for my cabinet and I like to pull it out now and again.  I'd hate to think of the quarter feeding involved.

I'm aware, I just think the game gets a bit of a bad wrap that's all.  It's not the d-grade chihuahua meat Taco Bell serves either.  It's a B-/C+ game, you could do far worse, but there are better.  I should know, I've also got Andro Dunos, Blazing Star, Captain Tomaday, Sonic Wings 2 & 3, Strikers 1945 Plus, and that's real carts aside from the 161 roster.

You know I never gave this game that much of a look despite it being on my 161 and the NGMini I have too, I kind of like the idea of them aping Tetris Game B with a twist basically.  A lot more garbage blocks, just to clear the blimp instead of all garbage or X lines.  It's a nice twist.  As always great review, good coverage of the game and history, no wasted effort there much like Jeremy Parish does with his years worth of ___ Works series.

Thanks! I knew before I started it was going to be a long one. There are too many things to talk about.

I know the explanation for it is simple, but it still floors me that games that were sold for hundreds of dollars were riddled with typos! You'd think for all the money we were paying we could at least get some proofreading.

^Just an amazing video. You've got the gift of comic timing, at least as far as I'm concerned. The bizarre universe in which the answer to every situation is a quiz game is such a trip -- the one-size-fits-all, one-answer-to-everything contrivance of it reminds me of everything from pornography to the people who knock on my door spreading their particular beliefs.

What a trip -- thanks for shedding light on it for us, I'm sure it did indeed take tons of work! How'd you manage to do it -- did you use emulation to supplement the footage, or find some way to pause the gameplay? Or did you just credit-feed, pick random answers until you progressed, and then went back and captioned the results? That's a lot of virtual 100 yen coins.

Thanks for the compliments! So happy everyone seems to be enjoying this one. Yes, it was a lot of work!

Nothing fancy needed, really. Just got footage of two people who know Japanese playing through each of the modes. Once you have the footage, freeze-framing isn't an issue. As usual, no emulation was used.

My brother (who hasn't made a video for the channel in over a year, but may be headed for a comeback) has lived in Japan over a decade, and put in overtime on this one. I put together the final script, but really most of the credit for this one goes to him

Hi guys,

I've been following and supporting AtariAge member @DJ Clae YouTube channel "Basement Brothers" for years. As a continued member that enjoys his uploads he shares for us to benefit and enjoy, I try my best to help him as much as possible just like he does with me.

We had a discussion the other day regarding the future of his "Trying to review Every Neo Geo Game on YouTube" thread". New uploads haven't been posted on here because of the concern of "lack of interest here on AtariAge". Well, to show my support to DJ Clae on how his commitment has offered so much to us here on the forums, I what to revitalize this thread so he can continue onward to post new videos for us to view, and to appreciate the helpful information he shares here on the AtariAge forums. Even though his Neo-Geo videos are still being shown on his YT channel, let's inspire him to post those videos on the forums for additional interest and views that enlighten us all.

From one AtariAge member, to another Alec. Thank you for your informative and well thought-out content you provide to the community at large. Hope this posting to motivate our members and guest to contact @DJ Clae and request to share more of his Neo-Geo game reviews here on Atariage.

So, let's pursue with NGH-024 with Last Resort. Thank you as always Alec. Keep up the great work. :)

From the description,

"The next game in our Neo Geo survey, NGH-024, Last Resort, 1992 from SNK. Is this one of the best shooters, or shmups, on the Neo Geo?"

Huh...thought they stopped doing those videos since the news dried up.

Hey Tanooki.

Alec discontinued on sharing his works AtariAge about 6 months ago. He still continues onto his channel and on other forums as well with his videos. He's up to #28. I would really like him to start doing so again on here.

I evangelize for Basement Brothers' videos whenever I get a chance, especially the Neo Geo series. Given the quality, their subscriber numbers should be 10x what they are!

I agree golden. Alex is a fantastic fella and his works are outstanding. Hopefully he will continue to share his works on here again for us to enjoy. :)

I figured as much reading back into the release dates.  He slowed up some, so I didn't miss much as I don't care about the unplayable japanese language only titles or the speculative info on never released games some greedy grunts won't copy and archive online because they think they're sitting on a gold brick.
