moycon
My brother is going to be helping me build a gaming rig in the next few months and I have always been curious/interested in the Daphne emulator. I have Space Ace and Dragon's Lair 1 & 2 in HD on Blu Ray and/or downloaded from the Playstation store, but would love to revisit some of the more obscure games from back in the day. (Bega's Battles, Badlands, etc...) I am just wondering does anyone here use Daphne? How many games does it emulate and how is the emulation? If I wanted to put it on my new rig, what is the easiest way to accomplish that? I'm assuming you need some sort of video files that used to be contained on the Laserdisk. Is there anywhere that sells the disks or modern day equivalents? Thanks for any input.
Flojomojo
Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and Thayer's Quest are still sold by Digital Leisure. It's easy to use DAPHNE to play those videos. The rest can be found elsewhere. It works great ... except for the gameplay. These games were a holy grail for me as a kid, but by the time Sega CD came along, most of us woke up to how un-fun they were. You're in for a cheesy good time if you set your expectations accordingly, though. Honestly I prefer Dragon's Lair on my Xbox 360, they've sanded off some rough edges which make it a little more playable nowadays. Daphne is well documented at the project page. Per their wiki, these games are supported: Daphne (as of v1.0) can play the following games: Astron Belt Badlands Bega's Battle Cliff Hanger Cobra Command Dragon's Lair Dragon's Lair II : Timewarp Esh's Aurunmilla Galaxy Ranger GP World Interstellar M.A.C.H. 3 Road Blaster Space Ace Star Blazer Super Don Quix-ote Thayer's Quest Us vs Them
