Put me down for 10 clear. If you do translucent colors, then I'd like some variety. Smoke, clear, read, blue, green, orange... etc.

I would definitely like a few as well, if colors are an option my preference on orfer would be orange, green then blue.

I just found the other clear shell campaign on the Vectrex fans unite! group. If that effort has been scrapped, it looks like there are 1000 committed buyers built up since Oct. 2016 that would probably make your shells sell out pretty fast.

 

But there's a mixed story about whether the other production run is proceeding. SK chimed in with a status update to say there's a delay but that it will still happen when real-life responsibilities calm. Maybe you and Steven will want to coordinate your efforts to offer two separate colors. I'll happily support both of your efforts. But I figure the more color options, the better for the Vectrex community.

Great idea for sure. One complicating factor is the difference between the two shell designs. The ones I am making are duplicates of the original design with the screw and latch features. The one sold by SK are changed from the original and do not have the latching feature.

Wow! That is no mean feat!

 

I worked with a mold cutter to create a Vectrex shell shell a few years back. (Obviously this never came to fruition.) One of the first features that "had to go" was the latch because of the undercut. Long story short, he determined it was impossible to build a mold that would work with a home press, sent my samples back to me, and refunded most of my deposit. Then I found out SK was still making shells and was glad I didn't get too deep into it.

 

I have to say, I love the latching feature and prefer to re-purpose original shells whenever possible because they lock together solidly, enough so that the screw isn't even really necessary. (Apologies to the loose copies of Heads-up action soccer and Armor attack that gave their lives for a noble cause.)

The enthusiasm is fantastic! I was informed the molds will be finished next week and should have samples shortly after that for inspection before mass manufacturing.

The molding shop is sending me the first samples and they are on their way. Hopefully they won't need any revisions and I can get this order completed.

Update 11-14-2017

Sean Kelly has released a new batch of shells for the Vectrex system and has posted them for sale on E-Bay. I will not be finishing this project at this time as such. I wish him well with his sales.
