Snider-man
You know, with all the talk about beef and meat that has been going on in this thread, the organizers should do themselves a service and have a steakhouse chain set up a small cafe there on the floor. "Let's see the vendors....There's Sunmark. Over to the left is Atari Age. And look! Tumbleweed!"
Guest cvo
I have two questions here... 1) Most importantly - Is the steak run still on? Who'se all going and are we meeting up at the hotel if it's a go? (Out of towners staying at the marriot?) 2) Is there a "published" set of hours yet for the show? The steak run is still on. I think we are trying to get more information on how many people are going to be here Friday night. We need to get some kind of ballpark number so that we can make reservations. Otherwise we won't get to sit and eat til a 2 hr wait. As for staying overnight, if you can you should, because the show ends at 8 pm. I don't know how you are getting back, but if you have time on Sunday morning there is a great fun breakfast place to eat at called Kerbey Lane. Maybe some other people still around can meet up for that, too?
Ed Siegler
10 - 8 is pretty good. Austin is totally out of my element so I just had no idea what was going on. Sounds like there is some decent stuff to do in the area. Where is that breakfast place in relation to the convention?

If we do a steak run, it would need to be relatively early in the evening if any of the organizers are going to be there. Several of us will need to be at the hotel after 8pm to allow vendors coming in from out of town (and those lugging heavy machines) to setup that evening, so we'll essentially be unavailable from 8pm on. However, if ti comes down to not being able to go because the timing won't work out, that's a sacrifice I'll have to make. ..Al
angusjake
Considering that we spent months preparing for CGE last year and PC4 this year, I doubt we will be able to prepare a booth for CGE this year. Hmm... the AGE show sounds great but the timing sure isn't. To me its a real downer that AA will not be at CGE this year as I planned to finally get to CGE this year - booked time off work and everything. I'll bet for a lot of people finding the time/cash for more than one show a year is very difficult.

I think the majority of us can't get the time off work or the money together to go to multiple shows. AGE is an opportunity for those of us that live in the south and can't make it to the other shows to participate in a gaming expo, it's not meant to make people choose between CGE and AGE. CGE could be considered in the south, but seeing as how it takes a full day just to get out of Texas, it's still not practical for some of us. The steak run in the mid afternoon would probably be best, because some of us have to set up for the show Friday night, and if we all have bellies full of hunks of steak and beer, then it will be rather difficult to move all that heavy stuff around. Plus it would be more relaxed and less rushed. My vote is for the early to mid afternoon.
MegaManFan
The only downside of doing it Friday afternoon is that the Mrs and I are hauling our butts from Thursday evening through Friday morning to make the drive, and I think we both hoped to "crash" for a little while in Austin on Friday before the steak run (which I just assumed would be closer to the evening when we all usually eat anyway). MacGurl
I'd imagine not everyone is arriving at noon that day. I'd think it would be better to have around 5 or so...but then the organizers have to worry about getting back in time. doesn't matter to me, I'm not going! I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I will probably not be enjoying a steak dinner on Friday unless it happens at midnight.. Even earliert in the day might be bad for me, depending on how many last-minute items need to be taken care of (and I'm sure there will be plenty).. ..Al
MegaManFan
Well, if I have to pump up on LiveWire Mt. Dew to be awake enough to go, I'm still gonna go. The Mrs may decide to sleep in our hotel room though to make up for the long night's drive even if I go to the steak-out, but I wouldn't want to miss a slab of beef and the company of AtariAgers for anything. Guest cvo
Regardless of whether or not we can all meet up for fun steak and drinks, I can't wait to meet AA'ers at the show the next day. It will be very nice to have a face and a real person behind a name and posts. And depending on how many AA'ers are still around on Sunday, maybe we could hook up for breakfast or lunch still. Sunday will definitely be easier for me and some of the other organizers, no doubt about that at all. But I'm not sure how many people are actually sticking around for Sunday. It may still be a bit too early to plan a get together (or get togethers) until we're a little closer to the show. ..Al

Snider-man
LOL! I keep poking my head into this thread just t see what the new AGE announcement is. However, everytime I do, it's "steak-related!" "Can't wait to eat steak!" "You said it! Where are we gonna eat the steak?" "Dunno. Don't care. Just as long as it's steak." "I'm getting into town early. Where and when are we eatin' steak?" "Still deciding on a steakhouse." "You know who has good steak? Tom's House of steak!" You Texans and your beef-feasts.... I pity the Lone Star cattle when this hungry mob descends. Paul Slocum
Well, since we're having a hard time figuring out when we're all going to be around... we're obviously all going to be there Saturday afternoon -- why don't we just skip the expo and take a tour of the steakhouses? -Paul
Guest cvo
What I am excited about are all the contests, especially the Super Mario Kart Battle Mode Challenge. Taken from http://www.mario-kart.net/challenge/upcomi...ingevents.html: "Complete Contest Rules - First to 10 rounds to be ahead by 2 wins. - The 4 levels are cycled in order. This is done so that no one has the advantage of playing their favorite level over and over. If the wrong level is accidently selected, the system will be reset (this doesn't reset the score, only turning it off and then on again does). - Your prize is $100 for every round that you are ahead of me if you beat me to 10 by 2 (minimum $200, maximum $1000). - If you don't win but you managed to get half my score, you get $5. - It is unconditionally FREE to play. Rematches are limited to one per day of the event. - Warm up will consist of racing, as much as you like. - The variable $100 prize can only be won once per person. The $5 can only be won once per person. - If you win the big prize, you automatically owe me a rematch at a later time, though no money will be exchanging hands on that one (unless we really want it to). - I will be settling any sort of dispute if one occurs." Steak is exciting too (meat is goooood) but this being the first year of AGE is even more exciting for me.
Albert
LOL! I keep poking my head into this thread just t see what the new AGE announcement is. However, everytime I do, it's "steak-related!" The Austin Gaming Expo site is updated fairly frequently with news about the event, so even though we're involved with the show we prefer not to spam the AtariAge forums with every little update. We'll post major news here from time to time, but we figure most people on AA are aware of the event and don't need to be hit over the head with it daily. Those that do need their daily fix will probably visit the AGE site. ..Al

Very little news on the AGE front, but daily "steakhouse run" updates. The beef obsession by the attendees is just simply amusing. Of course, I'm in Ohio - Land of the Anemic Cows - so I haven't had a good steak in years anyway. Maybe it's an envy thing....
