Albert
Hmmm.. when you start talking of tourneys or any kind of 2600 contest/challenge that involves playing the games.. now THAT sure sounds like fun There are several tournaments already listed on the site, you can find them here. There are more that need to be added, including another 2600 tourney (whatever we decide to do at AA, which will probably be Warlords), PC/Mac (courtesy Aspyr Media), more arcade tourneys, and a few others that individual exhibitors haven't given us the complete details on just yet. Too bad I don't plan on traveling again anytime soon Did you just get back from a trip? Hope y'all have a blast Thanks! I just hope I'm able to get some time in on all the game playing that will be going on! ..Al
Big Player
Big Player: I challenge you to a game of Marble Craze! You're on! Of course I've been stuck on level 13 for months. And I am a bit intimated by playing against the game's creator. Marble Craze would make a great tournament game. Same with Gunfight.

Albert
Marble Craze would make a great tournament game. Same with Gunfight. The split-screen action of Marble Craze does suit it very well for tournament play, but it takes a lot of practice to do well, especially once the walls are taken away. We'll have copies of the game at the show for anyone who wants some one-on-one action, but for the general populace who will be showing up I don't think it's a good choice. This is not a criticsm of the game at all, since Marble Craze is an excellent game. Gunfight is a better choice for instant tournament action as it's easier for people who've never played it before to have fun immediately--you just point and shoot with the joystick. ..Al

MegaManFan
Ahh can't we play Warlords while we're eating steak? Oh wait, that might make "choking" during a game all too literal.
Snider-man
Hey, you should have someone walk the AGE floor in a bull costume as the mascot of the show. Name him "Meatsteak Beefcow" or something.
Cybergoth
Hi there! Marble Craze would make a great tournament game. Same with Gunfight. Don't forget about Warring Worms. I had great fun playing that against Billy even though I won all the time Greetings, Manuel
NE146
Too bad I don't plan on traveling again anytime soon Did you just get back from a trip? Yknow I typed up a 2 paragraph semi-humorous response to this last night.. submitted it and it looked like the site went down for a couple of minutes.. and thus all was lost Oh well. The short and quick answer is yes I've been travelling a lot..
Paul Slocum
Yeah, Marble Craze isn't the best game for tournaments since it takes some practice to really get good. Although, maybe someday enough people will have their own copies that it will be feasible. For tournaments, I like simple games from early in Atari's lifespan like Air Sea Battle, Kaboom!, Warlords, Freeway, Combat, Dragster, etc. -Paul

Although, maybe someday enough people will have their own copies that it will be feasible. There certainly are a lot of copies out there in the Atari community. For tournaments, I like simple games from early in Atari's lifespan like Air Sea Battle, Kaboom!, Warlords, Freeway, Combat, Dragster, etc. I agree, not only are these games pretty easy to get into for people who haven't touched an Atari system in 20 years, but many people may actually remember playing them so they have a nostalgia value. These games may seem like "old hat" to many of us, but for someone who hasn't played Combat in 20 years, it's new all over again. ..Al
Guest cvo
What games will be available for play at the AtariAge booth? I'm wondering if all games for sale will be playable or if there will only be some set up for play. Thanks!
Albert
What games will be available for play at the AtariAge booth? I'm wondering if all games for sale will be playable or if there will only be some set up for play. Thanks! At a minimum we'll have all the new releases and demos that are listed on the New Products page on the AGE site. So we'll have several 2600, 5200 and ColecoVision systems setup for people to play, as well as a 7800 system with Chad Schell's new Cuttle Cart 2. We're going to load several games into that cart, making it easy to switch between some of the 2600 homebrew games and demos. We'll also have a good selection of games from our store, and anyone is more than welcome to try any of the games out in advance on the systems we have hooked up. ..Al

Albert
BTW: Still no traces of AGE in the Calendar. Is it used at all? Not really, it's a mod we did to the software when we switched over from UBB, but it's not very well integrated. The new software we'll hopefully be switching to has a much better Calendar implementation built-in, plus it keeps track of member birthdays so right off the bat that makes it more useful. After AGE we'll be looking into that some more. ..Al
bloatedmonkey
Do you guys have a count of how many folks are expected? It's weird that everyone wants to come to Texas for the steaks when we're most known for the Mexican food and Barbecue. Agreed. For those of you outside of Texas, I recommend not leaving without trying some Texas barbeque - it's different from the bbq you find elsewhere in the country. If you want to eat like a Texan, order a pound of brisket, not some weenie filet mignon that you can get anywhere.
