IndogamersPro
I need to figure out what the font Atari used on "Have You Played Atari Today" series commercial. It looks like a Magnavox Odyssey logo to me, but i don't know the name. Did anybody know the name of the font? I wanted to use it on my videogame journal. vidak
I think there's a website where you can identify fonts... Is it called identifont?? Give me a second...
vidak
Yeah! Use the interactive questionnaire on http://www.identifont.com
IndogamersPro
Yeah! Use the interactive questionnaire on http://www.identifont.com Sorry, that didn't help. I tried to find "Atari font" on google search and bing search and most of the results directed me to MumboSSK font which is a font used for Atari 2600 labels. vidak
You need to go through the interactive questionnaire and describe the appearance of the font. It's a little like Animal, Mineral, Vegetable - answer enough of the questions about the font and you'll identify it. If that doesn't make any sense I'll go through the questionnaire tomorrow and try and identify the font myself. For instance the font is a DISPLAY font, and not a TYPE font. It's made for titles. It is also a SANS SERIF font, meaning it doesn't have serifs. These are all the kinds of questions the website will ask.
pacman000
It's one of several fonts made between the late 60's and early 80's designed to look like the computer readable text on checks.Try Westminister. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_(typeface) Edited December 7, 2017 by pacman000
+KaeruYojimbo
I go to dafont.com when looking for fonts. It has fonts sorted into categories so it's pretty easy to find something that suits your needs. https://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=
CDS Games
Computer is very close...though it has dots in the Ms that aren't in the commercial's font. http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/computer/
+groundtrooper
Data70 I think is what you are looking for. Similar to "Computer" but the M is more accurate without the dots below but it seems to be a little "fatter". http://www.fontpalace.com/font-download/Data+70+LET/
CDS Games
It's close but look at the Y, V, and M....in the commercial they have diagonal lines, whereas Data70's are straight. The C in Computer has an extra thickness on the top hook just like the commercial, and ditto for the S in the bottom. Data70 I think is what you are looking for. +-^CrossBow^-
Checkbook is the closest I think you are going to get. It still has the dots in the M's, but the rest looks nearly spot on. Since you are using it for a title, can't you just rasterize the font logo after you type it and then manually remove the dots? That is what I would do... that would be much quicker than taking over an hour or even longer looking for something that might not even be available. Atari could have commissioned that graphic as an art piece and not actual font style. Therefore it might not exist in type font form at all or even as a font?
+Nathan Strum
Computer is very close...though it has dots in the Ms that aren't in the commercial's font. http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/computer/ It's almost certainly based on Computer. Companies often slightly modified fonts for their own uses. You can see all of the characters here: https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/computer/computer/glyphs.html

+Nathan Strum
That site is quite useful website unfortunately it doesn't work. It worked fine for me - I uploaded the Odyssey image from your first post and it immediately came up with Computer as the font.

+Nathan Strum
It needs reasonably clear images to work well. Video captures have a lot of noise, and are usually too low of a resolution to give it the detail it needs.
