Had a custom chip that did all of the heavy lifting, and was called the HART chip, an acronym for "Happy Atari Rotating Thing". I had two of these things, and one of them had an extra drive port. I was in the military and on a Greek base. I had to leave very quickly, and my wife had to pack up everything and ship it out. Well, my wife is Greek with family in Athens, and she decided that I no longer wanted my Atari gear, so shed left EVERYTHING in Greece with her sister. As a gift. From me. WTF???
