Reaperman rambles on about the classics.

Recommended Posts

I'm back into a Youtube phase again (link), and I seem to be taking it considerably more seriously than previous attempts, so I thought I'd make a thread here.

If you like listening to an old guy ramble on about games, and occasionally 'back in the day' stuff, check me out. I seem to be getting the hang of this game-capture stuff. Though, I'm still finding my voice a bit, so right now I do some videos let's-play style, some review style, and very occasionally current event stuff. Someday I'll also get over my fear of livestreams, and do one of those. I think I need more work on my stage presence first.

Anyway, here's a selection of vids from my channel, with the virtua racing one being my newest:

Today I go on about arcade controllers for the SNES while I wait for my super NT to arrive. One is the capcom fighter power stuck, the other the qj topfighter.

The capcom stick has a bit of interesting history as the pack-in for the cps-changer system, and I also show off a quick mod for the topfighter that fixes the biggest issues with the directional stick. I really like internal pics of arcade sticks, so there's some of those in there too.

Today I tried my first public livestream with Star Fox 2. My previous "livestreams" were private, because I was a bit of a wimp.

I've been trying to beat the game on hard mode for a while now, and nailed it at the end of the livestream.

Star Fox 2 is a really good game that reminds me more of Atari's 1979 Star Raiders game than any other game does.

'Normal' mode is a boring chore that I'd bet most players beat on their first try, but there is so much more content in 'hard' mode.

I play 3 games in the stream, the first of the three games is possibly the worst star fox game in history, where I'm defeated by the very first minor enemy.

Today, I put together a video review, of the Analogue Interactive Super NT, which arrived yesterday.

Good video and I like your points about it basically being an Snes / Upscaler / flashcard in one.

Also, I know I should know this, maybe I missed it but what is the image in the bottom left from? Looks familiar but I just cannot place it?

...and then I learned how to read the word 'left'--as in my *other* 'left.'

I cropped in on a bunch of animated background files and slowed them down.

Mostly from SNK games, and that one is from KOF 95.

I'm never sure what to do with that extra space. Part of me wants to tip the webcam vertical to help fill it.

I'm testing some adjustments to how gog's version of Star Wars EP1 Racer plays, and how I have to capture it.

Also talking about my experiences with the game when it came out, and my love of the Phantom Menace movie.

I'm deeply considering a livestream of this game. I just have so much fun with it, especially as an excuse to quote the movie.

Today I fumble through something modern, for once. Star Citizen recently released alpha 3.14--which finally seems almost stable enough for me to try out. If you ever wanted to see somebody accidentally bounce off a small moon at several hundred kph, this have the video for you.

So this is the first time I'll be doing a video build log of one of my controllers.

Being the kickoff build log, there's mostly showing off major components, and discussing the primary goals for the stick.

Later installments will go over the different steps of finishing and wiring this thing.

I also show off some before/afters of my last stick refurbish, the Billy Dee Williams Colt 45 stick:

I complain about Forza Motorsport 7 for 15 minutes despite having a fair bit of fun with it--believe it or not, this is a 100x more positive video than one I opted not to show off 6 months ago. I don't usually play/review bad games, but this game just breaks my heart. I want it to be good, I want to trust the handling, but default settings are SO bad. When it's dialed in, it's good, but I shouldn't have to touch anything, and I'm only qualified to tune my car, because I have no idea what, for example, a Ferrari is supposed to drive like. (I do know enough to know that FM7 is not right)

Also, my Avermedia LGP2 capture device has started glitching. I haven't been happy about it's firm requirement for true 60hz input signals, or it slowing my computers reboot time by ~5min if I accidently leave it plugged in, so I'm looking for a new device. Any recommendations?

If you are using a desktop, I recommend an internalized capture card. From my experience they tend to be more reliable.
