TI998owner
Hi Group, I need a little help with a Hexbus Printer/ Plotter HX1000. , The unit did not come with a AC adapter or the Color or Black PEN set. , Can someone that has a HX1000 printer /plotters, check the Voltage and current listing on the ac adapter and tell me If the correct adapter is a AC9203 with the voltage and current Of 9 Volts and 700 MA. I found a listing on DataMath.ORC for The HX1000, but want to make sure it is correct. The listing They have for the CC-40 is not correct. , Also does anyone have a source for the ( 4 ) color Pen set Or a place on the web they can be ordered from that is listed In English and accepts Paypal. , Does anyone also know what other printer/ plotter from Different company's PENs set were comparable with the HX1000 pens set, and the model number and company ? I would also be interested in buying a extra set from someone Here in the group , if anyone would happen to have any . , Next , does anyone have a Schematic for the HX1000 ? , The rechargeable Battery's need replaced, anyone know What the correct battery,s , I.e voltage and current And a source for them as well ? , With the battery's disconnected and a bench supply In there place , the HX1000 seems to function . Just no printing because I don't have any Pens Available to install. , Thanks in advance for any help or Info Please email or PM me Lee
+Schmitzi
Hi, I have this information, but maybe (?!) from the same source: AC9203 Power-120V 60Hz AC/DC 15W 9V 700mA for HexBus Printer/Plotter Maybe wait, I think owners will come up here with more info or can confirm. Just for comparison, for the CC-40 I have this entry: AC9201 Power-120V 60Hz 15W 6V 300 mA for CC-40, HexBus Modem & RS232
+Ksarul
The printer mechanism was used in a lot of different plotter printers back in the 1983/1985 time period. I know Radio Shack used to supply compatible pens, and they were also available from several other sources. So far as I know, none of those sources still supply compatible pens. I've never seen schematics. On batteies, your best bet would be to look at the ones in the device, as they may tell you amperage and voltage output. On the AC adapter, the 9201 was standard for devices with a low power draw and the 9203 was the standard adapter for most high current draw HexBus devices. +acadiel
Try contacting BEST Electronics (Atari reseller) to see if they have a gear (almost everyone's were broken or will be shortly) and the pens. http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/addendum.htm- you have to email them: bestelec@concentric.net 1020 Small gear set (2) for the Platen and Head Motors CB101727 $15.00 Limit of 1 set (2 gears) per customer Atari 1020 BX4204 Color Pen Set (4 pens per set) CO61420-01 $6.00 New Limit 10 sets per customer Atari 1020 BX4206 Black Pen Set (4 pens per set) CO61420-03 $6.00 Also, make sure you rebuild the Ni-CD battery pack in that thing. They tend to leak. The ones that I rebuilt that Ksarul now have were ones that I rebuilt.

Let me see if I have any 9V adapters more than 700ma and I will try to match the tip. Edit: got one. Just let me know what kind of tip you need. Jim - Have a pic of the tip handy? Or what mm the ID or OD is? Jon

Thanks TI998owner Lee Gotcha. I'll fit a tip that's like the AC9201 that I have, then. We just need to verify the tip polarity. I'll match the AC9201 polarity for right now. Should be no issue if I send it to you with the wrong polarity, you just pull the tip off and put it back the other way. (See if Ksarul can verify his polarity for you, or maybe someone else on here who has one can verify it.) PM me your address and I'll send you the adapter setup and ready to go. (You just need to double check polarity.) Should be able to send it first class mail - how does $15 total including postage sound? You can pay me with check, money order, or Paypal (if Paypal, please consider sending an extra $1 for the fees).
+acadiel
This page shows an AC9203: http://www.ti99.eu/?attachment_id=1994- So, once you verify the AC9203 is correct for the voltage, etc, you should be all set. I set the adapter to 9V, positive tip. Note that the AC9201, however, is a 6V negative tip adapter. So don't plug it in to the unit or you may cause damage. +Ksarul
Here's one that looks like it may be a drop-in replacement for the AC 9203. Is this the right tip size, Acadiel? The polarity is right (positive tip).

The polarity is right (positive tip). Yep, 5.5/2.1 is the tip I included with his Adaptaplug. I’m so-so with those cheap Chinese eBay adapters. I’ve had several of them go up in smoke and trip a breaker. I have an extra large supply of surplus Radio Shack adapters, which I know were good quality :-)

If I recall, just regular calculator paper is what I used with a max of 30mm in diameter so that it doesn't drag when you put it on the spindle.
