Mclaneinc
That's what put me off getting a SIO plug from Lotharek, 5.67 for the plug, 13.80 for the shipping....Thankfully I've been offered one elsewhere..All this postage madness needs to end...

Mr Robot
I'd suggest looking for SIO plugs on ebay or even looking for sdrive-max sellers (who obviously have a 3d printer) and sending them a message asking if they would sell the SIO plugs, I doubt anyone would say no. Try the guy you got your SDM from.

I don't want to start a polemic but just to put it into perspective. Of course, paying 13.80 for an object worth 5.67 is comparatively very expensive. But if you take a step back, buying an object thousands of miles away and receiving it a few days later has a cost. Not to mention the carbon cost and maybe the underpaid labor for handling. What would a much lower cost mean?
NISMOPC
I was able to put my cable together using a black Cat-5 cable. Also added a 3min video showing it working through my P:R:Connection. Sorry if boring video, but an exciting moment for me. It also worked perfectly with Bobterm ATR loaded via AVGCart and the WiModem232. ? Cheers! I was thinking of just connecting the two wires at the connector (maybe 1/4" from connector) end and not running them all the way to the SIO connector end. Two less wires to worry about. Would that be OK or would I still require a resistor? Using a resistor actually will cause problems, just link them together and it works fine. What would a much lower cost mean? It's about the way you look at it, if I was to factor in all that with every purchase I'd probably never buy stuff. Life often leaves us with rotten choices in the way of things but I also have to live by the rules of what I have in my pocket. For me that's too expensive to purchase so if you look at it I'm actually not doing the things you brought forward as reasons because of that. Sorry, but cost matters, not just to me but everyone, until we manage to create Utopia these choices will still be made, it's the major corporations you need to target in all honesty.. As I said, it's the way you look at it... Certainly not worth getting upset about in the context of how it is.. Back to Atari... Jeffrey Worley
I went ahead and installed the connector and cable the other day, but don't know how to enable the actual SIO. There doesn't appear to be an option for it and many .atr files work anyway, cable or no cable. So how do I force SIO function to test? Best, Jeff
Mclaneinc
What firmware are you using.. Unless its a beta firmware from the beta thread you won't see the SIO difference.. Edited July 30, 2020 by Mclaneinc

As Mclaneinc implies: you need to update to the latest beta firmware.

Mclaneinc
Obviously the HSIO needs a Hiass patched OS to kick in..Normal SIO will be fine..But yes, the newer the firmware the less you have to do to see it working, the latest version checks for the cable and uses it as default where you used to have to hold Shift while choosing.. Still can't get over how having Altirra BAsic (which I love) borked that xex.. Edited July 30, 2020 by Mclaneinc

Normal SIO is SLOW. In fact all SIO seems slow, but HSIO is best.
Mclaneinc
Oh, so I don't need to waste a slot on a hiass rom on the U1mb? Is that only for the SIDE loader or will it also work for the AVG menu Jon...I have not read the manual 100% Edit: Read the manual...Jeepers that HSIO is super fast.... Sort of think I'm doing it right, if I turn the HDD of I get the AVG menu back but I still get the HSIO from the U1mb but it seems slower than the sideloader..is it? To answer that myself, yes its slower, via the Sideloader with HDD on its blistering... Edited July 30, 2020 by Mclaneinc
