What model of 2600 is it? Reason I ask is that I find it easier to isolate the problem bits in a non junior. The old big ones have 2 or 3 big boards all plugged together. I just borrowed a similar system from a friend, and switched around boards till it worked (in my case it was the TIA chip).

what do you mean by the plug was getting hot, you mean the connector from you adapter ?, then there must be a little short circuit. if you open you're atari, you can see the voltage regulator (in all versions) a 7805. it has 3 pins. you could look with a multimeter what voltage is comming out of it (black on wire on the middle, and red on the right) if the power circuit is ok then there should be 5.00 volt, if not you could look at the recistance between the left and the middle pin of the regulator. if this is ~0 ohm then there is a short cicuit..and if you're plug from the adapter is getting hot it could be in the power connector.

Remeber PSU normaly get a little hot and if there was a short then you'd probably just blow the fuse in the PSU.

Just check the obvious: RF leads, TV tuning, PSU is giving you 9V, getting power to both boards and everything is connected together properly (the two boards).

If you check all that, and you still get nothing, then there is probably very little you can do.
