slydc
Hi folks, I've just stumbled upon this Youtube video: and there was a link to download the game but the link doesn't work anymore I've tried to search for it (even under rocks..lol) but alas this game is nowhere to be found, so does anyone here has downloaded it before the link went to the twilight zone? Thanks in advanced! =) --- Sly DC ---
Mclaneinc
Is this really on an Atari 800? Very clean and sound effect is spot on......Emulator possibly for the clean look but I know its just pong but its very very smooth in every way.. Still, looking through my lot... Edit: Nope...Nothing in my lot as PONG or similar as the title suggests... Maybe someone wants to try the way back machine and see if there's any clues still about but the nearest is by Bob Ayik and its NOT the same, nice but different.. Maybe its under some odd name... Not in basic by the look of it... Edited August 1, 2018 by Mclaneinc
+CharlieChaplin
Yep tried it, link does not exist anymore. Gave it another try with the wayback machine, but it reponded: "Wayback Machine doesn't have that page archived." So if no-one downloaded the game, we are out of luck,,, A similar pong type (in my eyes) is "Just Pong" by Bocianu, programmed in Mad Pascal: http://atarionline.pl/forum/?PostBackAction=Download&AttachmentID=9834
gorgh
That's definitely not atari 8 bit game...if you look closely the ball moves too smooth for 320x240 resolution, it's more like 640x480 in my book.
_The Doctor__
it was as far as I know a real game, he made a couple games btw maybe a little prudent to do a little more digging, it is needed before we say it ain't so... Mclaneinc
Ah good, I'm glad I wasn't imagining it... Thanks for the back up Gorgh with the technical why....Looked too damn good

Perfectly timed as I'd just posted to say it did look too good to be true with some tech back up.. Any idea what else he did Doc, I looked at the few uploads and Matterhorn gameplay was one but I hugely doubt its his game (not that truly remember the programmer although Ferris is jumping in to my mind) I still think its way too smooth though (edit: the pong game that is) Edited August 1, 2018 by Mclaneinc
_The Doctor__
I am not sure if the old PC I used is still around, but this was like 4 years ago maybe more... just simple little game. I see if I can find the hard drive. If it was in the shop it's probably gone, if it turns up in the house, we'll have it. At least one other person downloaded it at the time.... shouldn't be too hard for a person to e-mail or post to the fellow though.... Mclaneinc
Technically no one is actually right or wrong as its all unknown for sure at the moment.... I'll put a positive slant on it, IF its real it would be a really clean little Pong game to have...
Fred_M
I also tried the wayback machine (before I read that CharlieChaplin also tried it). No luck. Even the top domain has no pages. But, I looked at the other videos this guy posted and found a video called P/M editor for Atari 800 and the screen tells us his name: Tim Gearin. When you google that name one other A8 title pops up: Junkyard Racing made in 1999.
_The Doctor__
Gury has his email address, ask him, he may have his other work as well, the editors and such... or be able to contact him for the same...
_The Doctor__
http://atariage.com/forums/topic/113525-junkyard-racing-game/?p=1371309 his P/M program is written in Action! Last phone on file 612-544-5118 was a BBS last email address Tim.Gearin@f47.n282.z1.tdkt.kksys.com all of which will probably be dead ends, so probably best to contact Gury (Bostjan Gorisek) Edited August 1, 2018 by _The Doctor__

bandit
I know Analog magazine had a few Pong games, I gave away my analog magazines, but will ask if he can try and find Pong in there. I wonder if one of those is his.
Mclaneinc
Unlikely, I've checked out the various pong named magazine games and its not there, also the creation date is late 90's long after the mags had gone.. He is quoted on the page as say in 2012 that the game was around 15 years old..
256 colors
Pong that game must really push the Atari 8 bits too it's limits Edited August 2, 2018 by 256 colors

It also only uses paddles Edited August 2, 2018 by bandit
Mclaneinc
I'm not following, that pong you mention was for Analog, Analog had stopped doing Atari 8 stuff long before 1997 and I doubt if Analog was even in any sort of print by then.. The pong in question is in line with Tim's other games, the first being 1992.... I've also looked at the other magazine pong games and none are even close bar one I mentioned already a few posts back...

tane
Thank you! It's unbelievable, but I was now looking in another topic: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/113002-cas-to-xex-or-com/ and there was a file there, I just downloaded it to see what is it, and voila... ...And the reason I was there is because I was trying to find a cas to xex converter to use this pong game as stand alone game (it's used as a starter while the main game loads): Turbo Software Fronton - Swat - Use in Altirra with Options, SIO patch (F11) deactivated.rar Edited August 3, 2018 by tane
